Small yet mighty: say hello to the fully electric Volvo EX30 small SUV!

It's an entry level so the interiors are ok, I quite like it, but luxury is another thing. What should Volvo think is that the >100k€ EX90 has more or less the same interiors of a car that costs a third. It's like that Mercedes S class has the same interiors of the A class. That is a great problem on my opinion. But for the ex30 this could work well
The exterior is really well designed.
I like the car, well done!
The only thing that I don't really like are the colors, same shade of grey and an unbuyable yellow, hope more colors for the future!

How was that in the Seventies and in the Nineties? From my childhood (I was born in 1982) I remember old orange and green cars. Then in the Eighties fire-red, dark green, dark blue and burgundy, yet even golden cars. Fancy mint, petrol, purple, magenta and yellow cars in the Nineties, and then only silver cars, black cars, white cars, grey cars.

I find it very depressing every time I drive past our local Mercedes and BMW dealerships. They have huge lots of brand new cars and used cars, and they're all either grey or black.
Italy is the country of grey cars

I have discovered a defect... almost no possibilities to customize the car, just very very few things, take it or leave it. The idea of bricks associated to volvo cars was once related to the shape, now to the finishing touches.
I really like the car outside, but this stubbornness to cut finishing and give an Ikea car it really makes me angry.
Cut, save money, cut here cut there, no controls no options no sophisticated atmosphere at all.... it surely will work for young people, to me, european male, 48 yo, it looks like going to a restaurant and has a forced meal, paper table clothing, plastic cutlery and if you don't want the potatoes as side dish, there's an extra charge.

The delay of the EX90 won't solve anything, that car should be re-design from ground up.
They dig a trench between themselves and the Germans and RR. There's no way to fight face to face with them, it was a suicide to decide to produce a car like that.

You are right, I have exaggerated.
Safety is fantastic
Performarce is fantastic
Sustainability is fantastic
But
Range is low
Price is high, not palatable
We must see how high were the sell volumes set by volvo
What I ment with "this car needs to de redesigned from ground up", and I expressed it badly, is the idea that steps behind it, sell an ikea on wheels for a fortune. And guess who is the ex90's worst enemy? The xc90.
I think that the majority of the ex90 sold so far were bought by Volvo lovers who would have bought even a horse carriage with the iron mark on it. I strongly believe that not even one owner of an X7, a Range Rover a Gls or a Q8 will leave their cars for the ex90, it's a too deep step down in terms of finishing and customization.
I really like the ex30 because you can accept some compromises, it's a base model, not for the ex90.

I mean, you're clearly wrong for the US market. They're sold out for a year before most have gotten to see it in person let alone drive it.... Meaning, they've gotten more orders than they have room to produce. That means the price is just fine. Doesn't mean you can afford it, or that I can afford it, but the market for it is a decent size and they are unable to fulfil it at the price point set.

I can only speak for the orders I have and a little over half are repeat clients...the rest we've never seen or met before.

Volvo isn't a heavy customization brand. They haven't been for a long time. I personally think Volvo does a generally very good job with their packaging though and it's very very rarely someone expresses any discontent with the packaging or wishing they had to pay more for the features that are already included.

The EX90 and XC90 are, in my eye, the same. Some people want EVs and some people don't want to even recognize their existence. Sure there will be some cross shoppers for folks contemplating if EV works for their lifestyle, but if folks come in and drive the EX90 and then determine an XC90 is better for them, well, everyone other than our competition wins.

The range is fine, most folks don't need over 300 miles a day very often... and with 30 minute charge times, if it's that big of a deal just rent a car, or as you mentioned, buy an XC90.
It could sells like hell, it remains a dull car in the interior, how can you say that the xc90 and ex90 are the same? It's insipid and unadorned. Has any of your cliente complain about the lack of a curtain for the roof? How could people who live in hot countries face this lack? It's just not hot, it's hot and light. Fantastic to experience sun in the eyes for rear passengers. I really can't believe they made such mistakes only to save money.

You're moving the goalpost here. You said it was too expensive.. I said we sold out to prove you incorrect.

I know I'm sounding like a fanboy on this particular thread, because I'm very much in favor of what Volvo's doing with the EVs and simplification. I LOVE not having a moving sunroof, so many fewer problem with leaks and broken parts. You can always put a darker tint or wrap on it if you live in a hot climate. I'd rather it not have anything, but I'll take fixed glass over moving glass.
I'm not, you say I was wrong for US. Maybe for US it's cheap maybe for Japan, scandinavia, uk and Luxemburg it's cheap as well, but for the rest of the world it's very expensive. Anyway, I don't want to annoy people with this, I will never change my mind I find it a car for crash test dummies, I think that for european taste it's a false step. I'm done.

It's a balance though too because Mercedes-Benz and BMW did that with so many SUV's. X1, X2, X3, X4, X5, X6, X7, XM. X2's gone now but still I believe that is way too many SUV's lower and higher end priced. There's too much overlapping and they can end up cannibalising each other if they aren't careful too. I agree they need SUV's to survive but how much lower priced do they really need to go?

MB learned from this and said they were basically trying to fill too many market segments and they over did it. So they are trying to push away from that a bit. It's always a balance but the fact too that Volvo as a premium brand doesn't really have any halo higher end cars that cost more than $100k is crazy imo. They used to tout 'engineered like one other car in the world' MB at the time.

Hear me out for a minute. The 90 series cars are the highest they go once they started launching the SPA cars. If I were them I would have almost started a segment above like a S Class competitor and then made my way down. If you look at a lot of the really good luxury cars like idk W124 etc. A lot of what made those cars so good was they got so many of the components from the big cars and they didn't try to cost cut it to get it there. 90 series cars are very good imo but I couldn't help but think how much better it would be if they would have started 1 above it and gone down to it. It a lot of times splits the cost of development because they are sharing parts but now the car has to meet even higher standards and from what I have seen it has produced some incredible cars doing things like that.
Volvo luxury cars? With these new interiors????

I think they should bring back the ultimate in simplicity and style. View attachment 205038

Ahahah the next will be the lights! "Why do you drive in the night when you have free light during the day??"
Or the ultimate cost cutting: volvo will produce motorbikes in order to save money, Rowan says "two wheels are an example of scandinavian semplicity. Four are a complication"
