I have my car in Prestige Volvo NJ for 15000 miles service.
Tire rotation is not included per Volvo (?) and could be done for additional $35.
Also: oil (?) leak from dr. side, knocking noises from the same side, inexplicable occasional clutch slip when released (not droped), rain squeal (2-d time). Couple of issues I haven't even mentioned to SM, makes no sense "it's normal"
Car was there for the day, just got the call from SM:
"Knock can't be identified as well as oil leak (they don't even know if it's engine or transmission!), tech needs to take it home after putting die in oil so they can trace leak in black light. Actually, Volvo says it's NORMAL to have a small leak"
Call to Volvo NA: "we trust our dealers, if they say it's normal, it is. No, there is no supervisor, I am one..."
Second call from SM: "can he take it home, the round trip is about 120-130 miles?"
I:"No he can't, not more than 20-30!"
SM: "we don't know if it's enough, he needs to increase oil pressure to the max (!!!)"
I hope, I can get my car back in one peace. On the second thought, I hope he totals it...
Every time I have it in service, I'm ending up posting here., even though I read SS almost every day; great bunch of car enthusiasts, the best I came across.
I can't say I hate my R (guess, I passed that stage), I just don't have any trust in it. To many things which are considered "normal" or "it is, what it is" are unacceptable to me. Not in $46K car, sorry.
Have more serious things happening to me then waisting my time with SM or Volvo proving that oil leak (btw, not evaporation-leak!) is not normal!
Honestly, can't wait till the end of my lease- another 12 month.
Sorry, had to vent.
Does your SM ride a Harley by chance?
Sorry you're having so many issues. As I and others have said many times - your experience and satisfaction with your Volvo when it has problems will be limited to the quality of response from your dealership. Find a better dealer - they do exist.

Quote, originally posted by igvolvo »

...just got the call from SM:
"Knock can't be identified as well as oil leak (they don't even know if it's engine or transmission!), tech needs to take it home after putting die in oil so they can trace leak in black light. Dude, Prestige sucks. They don't know squat. I never trusted them with my S40.
Go to Paul's Volvo, I hear they're good.
Oil leak is not normal. 10 gets you one that it's the angle gear and they haven't gotten off their a**es to read the f*****g TNN.
Look HERE for a good list of all the TNN's. I bet it's the angle gear, the front subframe creak, and / or the axle ping.
I hate that dealer.

Thanks for advise. I'll take TNN to Prestige, although suspect that will not make any difference...

Quote, originally posted by JRL »

As I've said to others, you NEED A NEW DEALER, ASAP
...and to answer your question/statement, Volvos normally do NOT leak.

I've taken your advise and moved on, that's the 3-d one already. In other words, one you "normaly" deal with? Please, give me the benefit of the doubt... Just say that you're INCOMPETENT! I'm OK with that.
Tomorrow, if there's no changes, I'll try to get that "normal" thing from them in writing and forward to BBB. What else can I do? Any suggestions?
I would go to Paul's, but that's at least an hour door to door. I simply don't have that much time; plus the loaner...

It seems they forgot to tighten the drain plug and it FELL OUT while I was doing 75mph on Rt. 287 . Also, they never rotated the tires (on my '04 it was included at 7,500 and 22,500). The service manager said "Oh, they only get rotated if you request for them to be rotated" .
Needless to say - I have not been back... and they did not get a "10".
Go to Kundert Volvo (Englewood or Hasbrouck Heights).

The replacement angle gear didn't weep oil, it DRIPPED oil onto my garage floor. The service manager said they might have overfilled the replacement gear with oil (although they should know better!). Maybe he was right, because the drip eventually stopped. Now when I see my dry angle gear, I think it must be out of oil not to weep any more.

No!!!
Good thing this is not a toilet issue from Home Depot or Lowes.
I would and never will accept an oil leak on any new car, especially a potentially priced $40K+ automobile.
The sales brochure certainly did not feature seeping, leaking, puddles, etc.
I have had four Volvos, and none have leaked at all, ever.
Change dealers and tell both the old and new one respectively why you are making the change.

We have heard from some customers that thier dealer installed a small pad at the outlet to soak up any mist and prevent it form dripping. May not even be related to what you are experieinceing, but more of an FYI-
Re: SM: oil leak is normal... (Scott Hart)

My S80 had an oil leak that wouldn't show up until you changed your oil because it collected on the splash shield. The dealer thankfully found it and it was the breather box I believe? I got the "Volvo's always leak some oil" from a shop that was changing my oil...
