So yeah, some of you probably know that my 940 wagon is a hand-me-down that legally belongs to my parents. They gave it to me when I was in high school, then when I graduated they gave it to my brother and I got myself the Stang a little more than a year later. Since my sister was too young to drive, my brother kept the 940 until Monday when he took delivery of a '02 Dodge Dakota SXT. My sister (the youngest) got the 940. My father had promised me the car after she graduated so that I could turn it into a project car. Everyone is fine, but the car is hurting.
She was driving home from school today and apparently a girl two cars ahead of her suddenly hit the brakes and made a left turn without a blinker. The Jetta in the middle stopped in time, and my sister plowed right into the rear of the Jetta. I don't know how fast she was going, but there were no skid marks at all, that tells me something
Anyway, here's the pics. I think I'm going to get a project car sooner than I thought as there is no collission on the car. All things considered, I think the Sweedish tank held up pretty well.

Man, that really sucks! Wow, those front quarter panels look like they are in perfect condition still. Pretty amazing, if you ask me. I wonder how much all that is going to cost to fix considering the airbag deployed.
-Drew

Wow, that blows. Well, on the off chance they total it, you may want to ask the insurance company how much they'd sell it ot you for. It's worth a try.
BTW, is your sister okay? Airbags blowing up in your face is never fun. I had a girlfriend in highschool who did a similar maneuver in her Taurus wagon and had burns on her face. I hope your sister got through it more easily.
[This message has been edited by [email protected] (edited 06-12-2002).]

Sorry about that man, but it could have been worse, a lot worse. I just hope that she's feeling okay and you get the car for free or cheap.

Yes, my sister is fine, that's the most important thing. Slight airbag burns on her chest, that's it. And that's also the reason my parents put all three of their kids in a Volvo
The quarter panels do look fine, I was amazed. My mother told me about it like the car was totaled. Then she told me where it was towed to and I went to see it and take some pics. Not nearly as bad as I thought it would be, definitely fixable.

If they decide not to, and they don't let me fix it in the garage (yes, I still live in their house ), then it's gone

Great to see that your sis is doing ok. Perchance, did u get a look at the Jetta that was hit? Those 940's are strong as heck and if that car suffered that damage, then I can only imagine what the Jetta suffered and how fast was she going?

Well if you end up selling it, make sure to post it here. Depending on where you are in the Northeast, there might be some interest here...
Good luck. I hope you get to keep it.

No, I didn't see the Jetta, I wish I had. Back when I was 16 and still on a permit, I was driving with my dad when some girl in one of those old Chevys...the boats that are actually metal...slammed into my rear end. I had a little ding on the bumper (which actually never even got fixed), her car was a complete mess

Glad she's ok
Good old Volvos. They are the right car to crash...well you know. Safe, safe, safe. Those pictures are kinda hard to look at but the car looks like it was well kept before. No insurance collision you'll have to look at the repair bill and say, hey for $4000 bucks I can have a nice Volvo vs. scraping it. I bet the airbags will cost a couple grand. They suck. Mine went off in a similar situation once too. I was in the tail end of a pile up when some mini van driver careemed into the back of a Camry. The van which was going a good speed and came to a full stop in about 10ft. Pretty amazing. I drive off to the side of any van now so I can see around them.
