Re: Silver R on black wheel (Rangeball)

I think what ruins the effect for most viewing the photo is that the paint looks "splotchy". Looks like different gloss levels all over different parts of the wheel. It may have something to do with the quality of the photo itself, and not the actual paint job. You should try a photoshop on a car to actually get a better gauge of popular opinion ... see sig .

what color is your car? i'd like to see them ont he car.
honestly, i kind of like the idea of keeping the R silver..but i'd want to see it in motion...you might get some weird silver "line" effect of that R rotating so fast it looks like a silver lip or something.....
maybe paint it a shade lighter than the wheel...then it's visible whent he car stops...but less contrast, so in motion it disappears?

Re: (23109VC)

It gets no effect.
On my 17's I had the R painted red, you can't see anything while in motion

I hope that's not the final paint job cuz as QB mentioned, the paint looks blotchy and looks terrible.

The finished product actually looks pretty nice. These started off being my track wheels but they look so good, they might become the streets. Clear coat is going on tomorrow.

Re: (SoCal_S60R)

Unless you go gloss black (which I'm not sure I'd be a fan of either ...) they jsut look like the regular pegs covered in brake dust.
My rims pretty much look like that now.
-Ben

There are a couple of spots where it didn't turn out so smooth but all in all I am happy with the result.
I looked at the wheels this morning and there are a couple of areas that are glassy. I am going to lightly sand those areas and apply a light spray. Hopefully they will look uniform. Anyone know of an easy way to remove these glassy areas? Painting is definitely not my forte.
The silver R didn't work out on two of the four, so they all got a light coat. I plan on going back tonight with a brush and painting them silver. Thanks for the votes!!

i take it that you are not going for a gloss? i think the best way to get a uniform finish on it is to put on a good layer of clear down, using a few thin coats, and then you use sandpaper of a certain grit to get the gloss you want. and then just polilsh it out but not too much. that's how i would do it.
where in central fl are you?

Re: (SHIFT_S60R)

1- If they had a chrome or polished lip, maybe.
2- The silver pegs actually seem to match the silver paint, which looks very
nice IMHO. One of the reason I am not a huge fan of electric silver is
that it is a shade or two off from the silver pegs.
3- I think the Nordkap blue paint would do better with a silver car. Black
would look cool with Red, Black, Sonic Blue, Magic Blue (since they are
so close anyways. Again, just an opinion. for trying
something different.

If you are interested in tracking your caR, this Saturday in Gainesville the Gainesville raceway is putting on a test-n-tune road track, not the drag strip but at the same place. $50 for a whole day of racing or $30 for half a day. IM me if your interested.
I don't know if the clear coat is going to smooth everything out. I hope it does but I am not sure. To be certain I think I am still going to lightly sand and lightly paint the glassy areas as it is a result of me over painting.
-Will

Re: (SHIFT_S60R)

Thanks, it looks cloudy because I had just put on the clear coat. The paint I choose was a high heat engine paint so in person it looks very metalic with specs of glittery metalic flakes (I don't know how to describe it, still have not finished my cup of coffee so the brain is not working yet).
After the clear coat I am hoping that it will have a glossy over tone.
