I'm bringing this up because it seems to be one of the most expensive repairs on the SR and VR. I see posts about it so frequently that it makes me want to grab a spare block and have it Darton sleeved just to have a spare block on standby.

So, show of hands, how many have had cylinder liner issues? Below is a link to a spreadsheet where you can fill in your data, you can also post here if that is easier.

Here is my info, I am the second owner and to my knowledge the first owner never had any issues.

Number of Cracked Blocks: 0
Total Cracked Cylinders: 0
Wait for Warmup Always: No
Mileage at Crack(s): N/A
Mileage Now: 142k
Equivalent Hilton Tune: N/A
PSI Boost: Stock
Shims?: No

As always, thanks for the info guys!

I would also add a - do you wait until the engine gets up to operating temp (when your water temp. needle just get in the middle, the oil and block is not warmed up properly yet) before you load your engine with 15/20/any PSI of boost - question. I think this also can be a cause.

I have not - but I'm only a few months into ownership. How about this for a format? And we can make some averages of longevity possibly.

I added this google sheet for analytics and to capture the data:

Number of Cracked Blocks: 0
Total Cracked Cylinders: 0
Wait for Warmup Always: YES
Mileage at Crack(s): N/A
Mileage Now: 177k
Equivalent Hilton Tune: Stage 0
PSI Boost: Stock
Shims?: No

Notes: No cracks here. Which I think is as important of a data point as anything else.

1st 2nd and 4th cylinder cracked. Mileage around 90 000km.
Never beat it when cold, but Autotech tune and IPD TCV produced some amazing boost figures.
Now running a shimmed 2.3L block

No cracks in block/cylinder.

I never let it sit and idle up to operating temp but I do not go into boost and above 2.5K RPMs until the needle is in the middle.

Engine has like 40K on it. Stock internals.

I have a stage 2 Hilton tune with the 4C mapping so I only hit like 17 psi around town but 22 when I go into Sport mode.

I donut gulp any coolant or oil. Over the year Ive eaten only a CM of coolant in the tank, but no oil. Im pretty sure I have a leaky heater core, I smell coolant when it's hot or the heat is on.

In the winter (where we've seen around 6°) I do sit and let it idle for about 10 mins but then baby the sh*t out of it after.

To be clear, when people answer yes or no to the question of waiting to warm up, we are on the same page of not riding the car hard during warm up, yeah? Not literally don't drive the car until it's full operating temp.
