I've asked a similar question before, so forgive me for bringing it up again. But I read other posts that talk about owners hearing turbo noise, wastegates, etc. So why don't I?
On WOT I hear an engine. Nothing else. No whine, no wastegate. Nothing.
Is there a chance my turbo isn't actually doing what it should? Or does a stock T5 simply not make any kind of turbo noise?
2nd thing. I'm getting hesitation on acceleration. Not brutal, but definitely noticable. Both under hard and soft acceleration. It hits at exactly 2500 rpm. Any ideas what might cause that?
Thanks folks.

You should be able to hear your turbo spool but its nothing crazy... If you want to hear it better i would say remove front bumper and right behind where the grille is plastic piece u can remove right behind the left side horn . Its just 2 screws holding in a piece of plastic that looks like a half pipe .... You should be able to hear your turbo spool alot more... Volvo or should i say Ford put in there to make the turbo quiet

See, I don't get that. No noise like that at all.
Should I take it to the dealer for a check, or is this something any mechanic can diagnose?

I wouldn't take my car to the stealership for a problem like this nor would I take my Volvo to "any" mechanic... Check around for a Volvo Specialist, ask around on here too, I think someone else is from your neck o' the woods.

Try removing the hood liner - it's a 5-10 minute job with no tools required, and made my turbo noise louder. If you want to put it back in, that's a quick job, too.

Is your air filter dirty? Try a new filter. Also remove the "snorkel", that should do the trick but that'll let hot air in.
Or get a K&N Intake

I can barely hear my turbo whine. I think it's on the right side (it's been years since I've looked at my engine). The easiest way for me to tell was to go through a construction zone with the concrete barricade walls and roll down the windows. Drop it into a lower gear or give it a little gas (assuming it's safe!). That's when I really notice mine.

Air-Tube - Silencer - Removed & K & N , and Air Horn on Top of ECU - Shorten Up .8750 to Flow More Air - Can Here Turbo , but Our Turbo is Not a High Pressure - High RPM - Turbo - so Turbo Sound is Muted .
On a PPC Tuned Motor the Turbo does Sound Better .
2. Question : From When the Motor Makes Enough Rpm to Get the Turbo High Enough - to Replace Pumping Looses - and The Variable Cams are Kicking In - all that will Feel Like a Hesitation . It's Been a Long Time Since I Tried
The 12 PSI PPC Tune from the Stock 8.7 - 9.1 PSI , but It Seems to Me that the Tune took a lot of that away.
It Feels Like Front of Car is doing a - Nose Over , is that what You are Referring to ? - or a Power Bleed ?

So don't expect to hear it.
I hear mine quite clearly at 1500rpm, when just tipping into the throttle. Zzzzinggg it comes right on and almost disappears as the torque comes up.
In other words, it's subtle. Pay attention and don't expect it to shout to say it's working.
Tom.
