All of you problems could be easily repaired by you and you could get another 100k easy. My wagon went 242k before I grenaded it out hot rodding. No fault of the engine either. I have replaced the engine and still drive it today.
If you can do it your self you will be better off in the long run and have it the way you want it
If he takes the $2000 and buys a newer car he will really be at the dealers mercy and won't have any upgrades.
