Hello all,

I'm ready to jump into my first Volvo (V50)
. What should I do, should I wait for the 2007 model or should I get the 2006?
Do you know when Volvo dealers start to "clean up" their inventory? maybe Volvo will run a end-of-year incentive? I'm new when it comes to Volvo incentives...are they worth?

Thanks in advance!

These are the features for the 2007 model:

It basically boils down to this: do you want to save money? Or do you want some more toys and options with your V50?

The big news is that the 2007s can play MP3 CDs and will have a aux in for iPods. For the older models, there is no elegant solution for the iPod or MP3 discs. Don't believe any company or person claiming that they have some simple aftermarket solution for this. It does not exist and will never happen. Put it this way- you have a better chance of going to your local Volvo dealer and seeing a brand new Ferrari Enzo on the showfloor going for $39,999 and the salesman willing to knock off $3,000 if you buy it today. With a 10yr, 100,000mi warranty. And 1 year of free gas.

Safety-wise, DSTC will now be standard. In my experience, several dealers did not have this option for the AWD variant. It was an extremely rare combo.

If you were planning on getting a close to base model I would wait for a really good deal on a 2006. If you were going to spend more and get a more loaded car I would wait and get the upgrades in the 2007.

I'm planning to get a V50 T5 AWD (with NO extras). But I will be willing to wait if the savings are "good enough" for a '06. Any idea if Volvo's incentives are good enough that it's worth the wait?

TIA,

I don't know about incentives, but on a car that is not flying off the lot that is about to be replaced with a new model year with a few extra options, I think you can get a good deal.

I'd wait until the '07s are on the lot and then go in to test drive a V50 T5 AWD. And if you find a '06 you like, ask them that you heard DSTC is standard on the '07s and play dumb with it, ask the salesman what it is. You might get lucky and get a salesman that says, "Well since you already have AWD, DSTC is overkill. It's an extra $700 you can spend elsewhere." Then bring up iPod connectivity. Make it appear that DSTC and iPod/MP3 playback are maybe important to you, but with a bit of smooth talking the salesman can get you into a '06. With a steep discount, of course.

Re: Should I wait for the 2007? (eurotrash)

I am new here and just bought a 2005 V50 yesterday. My husband is a car dealer so he was able to get a decent deal, at least for our part of the country. We chose to go with an 05 because there are no deals here on 2006's because there aren't any on the lots -- there are actually waiting lists! In looking at auction reports so he could buy at a Volvo auction, there aren't any 2006's and found 1 2005. If the cars are plentiful where you live, you are very lucky -- especially if you can get a decent deal.
We bought a leather, moon roof car with 13,000 miles for $19,000. I really dislike used cars but this one is brand new inside and out. This is my third Volvo. I had an 850 sedan and an 850 wagon and loved them. I then had a BMW 530i wagon and Audi A6 wagon. The Audi was my all-time favorite car but my Volvos were a really close second.
