Well, do you like gadgets? Or do you like Black Sapphire Metallic, Silver Metallic and/or White Pearl? Because if you want it in any other color than the three I just mentioned then...get something else. They will only be painted in one of those 3. The DVD is pretty neat. Much better than the TV tuner picture in the S80 Executives. Good way to keeping the kid(s) busy during long trips.
I personally do not like the choice of alloys; they come with the 17" THOR alloys, found in the S60/V70 AWD. I like much more the 18" alloy pictured on the article that is featured here, at swedespeed.com.
Yannis

I too just ordered a Silver S80 AE, delivery on 9 August at the FDC. Has anyone taken the ferry from Germany to pick up a car at the factory? I'd like to hear your experience in doing that. My wife and I plan to stay two extra days in Goeteborg. BTW, I'm an AUDI A6 quattro driver for the last four years, and this is my very first Volvo. Hope not to be disappointed, but this car just looked, in and out, too good compared to the A6. Plus a new A6 comes out at the end of 2003 anyhow. I am getting excited about this AE version. Ordered the off-black interior, although the taupe interior looks very good in the pictures. Just not sure how it would look with silver.
Best to all, Rick

Hey Rick
Good choice! I picked up my 850 in 1995 at the factory. It was great. We were in Geilenkirchen then and took the train to Kiel and then the ferry. We had a 1 y/o with us and had no problems at all. Now we're going to do it again in July with two kids 6 & 7. The factory tour was interesting and hey we had swedish meatballs for lunch. We're going to drive down and take the bridge to Denmark this time. You won't be disapointed with the trip or the car. Keep in touch
Glen

Thanks, Glen, for the info. Tell me more about the option of taking the bridge back to Denmark please. Do you drive from Sweden to Denmark, then ferry over to Germany? I got the nav system, RTI, on my AE. Found out you have to buy the DVD map of Europe at $475, but you can order it through a German Volvo dealer at much less using the VAT-free form. Also ordered the Dolby system, rear radar, wood steering wheel and locking nuts on wheels. I too am a bit disappointed that the Arrakis wheels aren't offered on the AE, but the Thors look pretty sharp too, and will be easier to keep clean IMHO. Still not sure about the off-black interior. The taupe looks sharp, with the walnut inlays. I'm afraid the walnut will get lost with the black interior.
Best from Bavaria! Rick

No ferry is needed. You just drive thru Denmark to Germany. We are going to take a few days in Sweden and then go to Legoland in Denmark for the kids. I just told the dealer that is what were doing and they will get back to me with a price for the one way ferry and train for 4.
My AE is Pearl White with Taupe. I've added Nav, Dolby, Refrigerator, and the Nuts. I'm thinking about the kitchen sink. How did you get the rear radar? I haven't been offered that as an option. How much? Didn't know about the DVD being cheeper with a VAT.
I think the black interior with the silver will look sharp. The walnut may not stand out as much but you'll know it's there.
Oh and the answer back to my dealer about the 18" Nebula wheels.... No. Oh well as you say the Thors look great.
Glen

Glen, my dealer, Dave Grey, a former CSM with the 2d ACR who I worked with in the early '90s, just asked me if I'd like to have the rear parking radar at $400, and I said sure. Your trip sounds neat. You'll definitely have your AE broken in by the time you hit K-Town. Pearl White w/taupe will be unique for sure. You'll likely have a rare bird, as that is a color that isn't often chosen. Very nice IMHO. I'm a tradionalist, so the silver w/off black is my choice for this special car. The RTI CD-Rom is $475 from the factory, but if you order it through your German dealer you can get the VAT off, at a lower price in the first place. You get the USA map DVD when you hit the states for free I'm told. Cheers, Rick
