Shifter won't come out of park?

Greetings everyone..

Unbelievable night.. long story short I'm stuck in Reno (250+ miles from home) after having my R towed via Volvo OnCall to the dealership here. No matter what I try.. when I start the R and press the brake pedal.. my shifter will not go out of park. Insanely irritating.. made for a very intersting time getting the R onto the flatbed and off.

Question though.. has anyone dealt with this at all? I remember there being quirks on my old 98 T5 with the shiftlock. Anyone dealt with this problem? I'm stuck here until at least Monday.. any info would be great so I could pass on to the dealer here...

Doesn't the R have the manual override so you can shift it in emergencies like these.

Make sure fuse 21 at the CEM is good. It is in the shift lock solenoid circuit. These are the fuses in the block under the dash, just to the right of the steering column. You will need to remove access cover.

I should add, that you should check to see if your brake lights are working. The Gear Selector Module must see an indication that the brakes are on, for it to release the shift lock solenoid. If no brake lights, than jumping the brake light switch may solve your issue, however you still have a car with no brake lights!

Yeah, there have been a couple of cases of issues with the interlock solenoid.

Don't recall if there is an emergency release or not, sorry.

Sorry homie. Wish I could do something for ya. But unless theres a manaual override. Theres usually a switch above the brake pedal, however theres all this plastic under the dash.
At least your in Reno, NV, you can get a good meal at anytime of day, some twisty roads when your car if fixed, plenty of great shopping and the weather's been awesome.

Yeah I will say it's better Reno than some place like Elko.. and on the bright side I already lost a couple hundred at the roulette tables just to add insult to injury. Here's to hoping the dealer has it sorted early tomorrow! Thanks for the replies...
