My 1995 850 GLT NA Auto has been acting up the past few days. The shift light comes on and flashes, as does the sport/econ light on the switch. Also the check engine light comes on after about 30 sec of driving. The car shifts fine through all the gears, except it tends to hold first up until about 3000rpm, when it used to hold it to about 2300-2500. I read the codes on the OBDII and it says Vehicle Speed Sensor A Malfunction. When i read the light with the flashing LED under the dash it gives me 2-3-2 which is missing speedometer information.....So i replaced the speedo sensor on the bottom of the tranny, and the vehicle speed sensor on the top, cleared the codes....and the lights came back and it does the same thing.
Any guesses?
My next thought is to replace the tranny computer.
Thanks everyone.

Re: Shift light/CEL light (ashenet22589)

Your PNP (shift select) switch needs replacing
A couple of hours job.
(You should not be wasting your time (and money) when you really don't know what's wrong, as I said, you're just wasting money).
Meanwhile to bide you some time, try "rowing" the shifter back and forth 20 or so times with the ignition on.
This usually cleans the switch for a while

Re: Shift light/CEL light (JRL)

Went outside this afternoon, cleared the codes, rocked the shifter 25 times, then started the car. CEL light comes on right off the bat.
If you shift the car into any "drive" selection (anything but P and N) the check engine light will shut off. I drove the car down the road, car shifted from 1st at about 3000rpm, then into 3rd at about 2500. Arrow flashes on.
Drove the car home, making sure it shifts through all the gears, all the way up to 4th.
Car drives exactly as it did before, just holds 1st longer.
Im going to try the computer first, as a friend of mine has one with the correct numbers, and it wont cost me anything. Then if that does not work, ill buy the PNP switch....Already did it on the wagon, so i should have it down to a science lol.
