I was looking into buying the trip computer for my S40. I picked up the car 2-3 months ago. I got a pretty good deal on it.. (05, 21k miles, 5 speed) but the car is...should i say, basically equipped. I found the trip computer on mysweedishparts.com. Is it even worth it? I think it would be nice to have, considering I dont. How accurate is it? Avg speed/mpg/etc.. Do the ppl on here that have it even use it? Its not a terrible amount of money, i know, but I'm sure it will add up after a stop at the dealership for software download/labor, etc.. Im pretty mechanically inclined. Im not worried about the install of the new turn signal arm. Advice? input? Thanks in advance!

Find out how much your dealer would charge, but I say it is worth it. I use mine all the time.

My car is basically equipped. Didin't really bother looking into the trip computer. I find it more accurate when you fill up on an empty tank and reset the distance travelled. My RDX has that feature and didn't really find it that great to have. I think at the end of everything, you are looking at least 200. FYI software download is different from labour. You have to pay for the software and pay for at least 30 mins of labour. That is what they said for my fog lights.

Re: Shelling out the $75 for the trip computer + dealer software dwnld...worth it? (HaZed)

I bought the trip computer from myswedishparts.com and had my dealer install the software update 2 months ago. I installed the turn-signal stalk myself. The dealer charged me $197 to do this. I'm glad I did it. The trip computer is pretty lo-tech, compared to my '07 GTI, but hey, at least I can get the mileage -- instant and average -- now on the dash!
I also did the fog light retro fit. I did the physical install and the dealer did the software update.
It's all kind of pricey, but in my opinion ... well worth it!

$200 for the software upgrade? thats crazy!!! does the one from mysweedishparts come with average speed as well?
As for the fogs, did you buy the kit from mysweedishparts too? i was wondering about the kit! if so, does it come with EVERYTHING? including the plastic covers with holes in them? what did the dealer charge for the software on the fogs?

software chage will be like 100ish and software installatino will be like 30 mins labour. Fog light kit shoudl come with everything you need including a replacement switch in the cabin. Don't just buy fog lights from somebody cause then you will be missing a lot of things. check myswedishpart and boston volvo for the best price.

Re: (HaZed)

I lied ... it was $195.50!! I wish it were 100-ish as Vash13 suggested!!! Here's the breakdown: $150.00 for the CVO (software download from Volvo) and $45.50 for the labor (!) on the download into my Volvo. My dealer is pricey, but then, where is there a bargain-basement Volvo dealer?
As to the fogs: I did also buy them from myswedishparts.com because of the concerns you have. I actually called them to verify parts, etc. Anyway, the kit comes with the complete dash switch housing, 2 fog lights, and 2 new plastic grille bezels that surround them. The car's already wired with a connector behind the current plastic grille. All you have to do is plug it into the new lights ... and then have the dealer "turn them on." It did gall me to spend so much for something so simple as a allowing voltage to get to the lights.
BTW: I installed all the physical parts myself. I can only cringe at the thought of how much extra $$ my dealer would have charged for that.
Here's the breakdown for the lights (same dealer): $125.00 (software download from Volvo) + $35.10 for the software install into my car. Total = $160.10
I'm still glad I did 'em both. I had them done about 5 months apart to lessen the $$ impact on my credit card.
