Recently, I had the "book time for service message appear". I am just shy of 7,000 miles and was wondering if this was part of the normal 7500mile/1 year/x number of hours dummy reminder. The reminder was reset with the normal procedure, it is just aggravating if this is part of the normal reminder, as the dealer changed the oil last week. I tried searching, but did not get any hits on "book time". Just wanting to see if this is part of the normal reminder, or if there is something else going on. No check engine lights, or odd behaviors.

Thanks,

Re: Service Reminder Question (lawsotk)

Sounds like you have a newer model S40 which they have changed the wording a bit in the service reminder window. This should just be your standard service reminder message that should have been reset with your service.
If they forgot i would just reset it yourself.
Key turned to position 1
Press trip button until in trip 2
Once in trip 2 hold until mileage clears and continue to hold
While holding trip button turn key to position 2
Continue to hold until yellow triangle in center of cluster flashes at least once
Let go of trip button
Turn key off and start the car and reset procedure should have worked
If not try again as sometimes doesnt work for people the first time they try it

Thanks, that is what I thought. I've already reset it. The car is a 2008 S40, I thought that the car info was in the profile info already, sorry for leaving that off. I was just wanting to check into, especially since the manual gives no real indication of what the warning message indicates. The fact my mom's 07 S60 has only displayed the scheduled maintenance reminder, not the book service message made me ponder it(I know they are different models and years, but the warning messages should be fairly similar).

No i see where you are coming from, you would think that they would use the same wording between models but they dont lol. Book time, scheduled maintenance, maintenance service required all mean the same.
Now "brake, trans, engine, etc" service urgent messages are another thing haha.

Does the service reminder have to activate before it can reset? Can the reset procedure be done at say 4k and the light not come back on til 11k or would it come on at 7.5k.
Just wondering for future reference.

Yeah it can be done at any point. The light doesnt have to be on for you to reset the counter.
