Service question

I have a 2018 S90 that is approaching 10,000 miles and is 9 months old. I prefer to do the oil change etc myself. I called the dealer and asked about any updates and they stated they couldn't tell unless they hooked it up to computer. Is anyone aware of ny updates that are really needed for such a new auto? All systems are fine and I have had 0 problems with this car.

Total Upgrades/Service 2.0 software is updated and released nearly every quarter and sometimes sooner if they find a bug. I can update a car during pre-delivery inspection and recheck it a week later to find another small update has been pushed out.

They can tell by inputting your vin into VIDA but like myself, they probably dont want to waste a tech's time on a potential non-customer.

Someone (with an early 2018 production V90, I believe) recently reported improved shifting following recent 10k service and I think a couple others indicated same improvement.

I wonder if the first three preventive maintenance services are required in order for the warranty to be valid. I thought I had read that they were, but I'm not sure.

As long as you have documented services/receipts being done at the proper intervals, you dont lose warranty.

BUT...... If you have something fail out of warranty (like oil consumption or engine failure), Volvo will be much nicer about "goodwilling" an engine if you have properly maintained it at the dealer with all service records.

When i get a 80k mile vehicle using 2 quarts of oil every 4,000 miles, I submit a request to warranty the engine under "goodwill" and the first thing they ask is SERVICE RECORDS!!!

1. It's under warranty for 10, 20, and 30K services. Why do them yourself? Let Volvo handle these, especially if a problem shows up down the road. Volvo will be reluctant to fix.

2. You won't get the necessary software upgrades for each service visit by a DIY. Meaning you're vehicle will be running software without updates to improve / fix problems.

There are almost definitely software updates available.

Volvo releases updates frequently.

Unless I'm mistaken, the updates are only free if you have them done in conjunction with other service or warranty repairs.

Why not let the retailer take care of the entire service? It's complimentary and they will also update all your software, as needed. Easy peasy.
