Service Nightmares....we feel your pain!

After having our R for only six days she went in for the shifter cable replacement,(our vibration was BAD). The same dealer where we bought the car also performed the service.
They had the car for eight days and went through two shifter cables. They put 79 miles on my car "performance testing" it. Finally had to get a regional rep to look at the problem.
Car was returned to us unwashed, small burn in the side of the driver's seat, grease all over the floor and both front seats and a badly scratched space ball which was a result of the shifter knob coming off in my husbands hand as he left the dealer. When the tech tried to replace it, he didn't know how to get it off nor could he get the new one on. My husband, trying to contain his rage asked the guys at DYER AND DYER how in the hell can you put 79 miles on my car and NOT NOTICE the shift knob coming off???!!!

Just had the car serviced again this past week for the recall. New dealer...much better service. We'll see how they do on the 7500 check up.

Re: Service Nightmares....we feel your pain! (Rcrazy)

Wow, kind of sounds like what happened to me during my buzzing shifter fix, only a lot worse. My dealer put on 15 miles of "performance testing" and also left the interior dirty and greasy. They also broke the cup holder while they were at it. Also managed to curb one of my wheels (fixed later) and washed the car, but left tons of swirl marks on my near perfect finish that I worked so hard to maintain. Oh yes, and the buzzing is back and the knob is loose. Gosh what is with the sudden surge in "horrible service experience" posts.

It's typical volvo service, get used to it.

Not always. My dealer's been terrific and someone else just posted today that they're pleased with their dealer also. Lumping all the dealers in to the same category arbitrarily isn't fair to the ones they really try to deliver good customer service.

I agree with Barry, my dealer (Kline Volvo) has been very good. Free oil changes in between the Volvo's free ones, loaner car or valet service. Hand car wash, and so far, very good service.
Not all dealerships are lacking in customer service skills, we just hear about the bad ones here on SS.

Keystone Volvo (PA) is very good too.
They can't wash, (No facility or room) but give you a free ticket for a wash down the street.

My dealer Borton Volvo in Delray Beach, FL has been excellent on the 3 times I have been there for routine service. Small dealership, same service writer and mechanics every time I go, seems well run, has a family atmosphere to it. They let me bring in my own oil, and will mount my tirerack ordered tires with no issues. They seem to say yes to anything I ask, so far I am very impressed. Also, the times I have been there the sales guy has seen me and has come over to ask me if everything is ok with the car, if I am there for service or if I have an issue. Now this is a first for me, a sales guy actually remembering you.

Smothers European in Santa Rosa,CA has been veddi veddi good to me since 1990. Always prompt, polite and professional. Never a charge for VADIS adjustments, always get a loaner and a decent car wash. Most of the staff has been there for a long time and remember me and my preferences. I'll be a customer of theirs as long as I live in Northern Cal. http://********************/smile/emthup.gif
