My wife's 2.0D S40 is due for a 3 year service soon. I've been quoted about £460 by main dealer as this service is said to include a fuel filter change. Am I being ripped? I called a non-franchised Volvo specialist and they quoted under £250.
I recall the 2-year sevice cost me about £320 at the main dealer.

Re: Service Cost and Alternatives (ian cognito)

Did the independent price include the fuel filter? A £200 price difference is steep even by Volvo standards! And do main dealers still charge YOU for the use of Courtesy cars? I was once quoted £11 a day on a S40.

Re: Service Cost and Alternatives (hikennys)

The independent was up in Southport, I’ve never used them before and was just basically seeking a comparison. Looking at the difference I may be tempted. I asked about service cost, he said a standard would be about £190, plus about £50 to fit a new filter.
I think the charge still exists though I haven't paid it recently. My S80 is a company leased car so I think everything is included, and I live close enough to the dealer to allow them to collect and drop off. I seem to recall the charge was for "insurance", but if you pro-rata this up to an annual rate (being generous and assuming a 5-day working week), this equates to nearly £3k!
I guess the best thing to do is go back to the dealer and ask if this is their best price. Before I do this, I was just wondering if everyone else was paying this much for the 3 year diesel service?
I take it you mean Mr Nutbrown in Southport - i have used him, in fact my C70 came from him!
He uses a mixture of genuine Volvo and quality aftermarket parts, and i have had no problems with work from him (apart from i hate paying any garage bill, due the fact i should really be doing the work myself- my profession is in the motor trade! - but i ain't got a service stamp!!)
How about ringing Volvo Warrington for a price comparison?
