Press Release: http://www.parrotoem.com/en/news/sensus_connected_touch_eng.pdf

It looks like any Volvo which has standard sensus can be upgraded to take full advantage of sensus touch. It looks like it's the sort of modern infotainment system that Volvo has been needing for several years to catch up to the competition. I'm still hoping that the new DIM will be able to be retrofitted.

I didnt get anywhere with my regular dealer, so called another place where Walt took the time to research it and call me back, twice. Kudos to Walt At Richenbaugh Volvo in Denver!!

Two different versions coming in June. One for cars with in-dash nav, one for those who dont have the nav system. Pricing looks to be $1500-$2000 per Walt, but he said some componants don't have enough description yet to be sure of pricing right now.

I'll be looking into this again in a few more weeks

I asked my Volvo dealer about it, and as usual they had no idea what i was talking about. I emailed them the press information and they were going to look into it.

This is exactly what is wrong with the Volvo dealer network here in the United States. You should have seen me trying to obtain a navigation update disc from my dealer. Nobody had a clue.

So are there any options for pre 2011 models? I realize the screen wouldn't work, but Bluetooth streaming is what I'm after.

I agree on the bluetooth streaming. Not a big deal, but would be nice to use my iphone with the radio without having to hook up the cable. For a in between solution, I bought one of those bluetooth receiver things and plugged it into the AUX input. Works great, just don't get the use of the audio buttons for changing songs, etc.

So I wonder what it would take to custom upgrade a pre-2010 model with this. Having custom installed head units in the past, I'd give it a whack, if I had an understanding what dependencies it relied on.

You dont need the dongle. It can use the connection from your smartphone over bluetooth as well.

This is definitely something that has been on my mind, and is something I may actually do if I stumble across and appropriately colored inscription leather wrapped dash. I do believe, though, that it would be very difficult to integrate sensus into the new dash. I'd probably work out a way to fit my current nav screen, or input the navigation to the sensus screen. It may even be an ideal way to use a car PC which could certainly do everything you could ever want.

I would love to be able to integrate the new sensus touch, though. It's pretty impressive.

I imagine it is in excess of $2000.00 but that's just a guess. Install looks straightforward enough in post 2011 cars

It looks like the retrofit costs 1250 euros in europe, and things tend to end up being a little less expensive here too, so I think it'll be less expensive than we think.

We purchased our S80 without navigation intending to use our portable Garmin unit. I have to admit that I've grown accustom to having maps always available as in our other vehicles with built in systems. I miss that in this car. I'm discovering I'm not satisfied with Garmin. So, when STC was announced I was eager to see what it offered, including navigation options. I purchased the STC User Manual this past week and having read through it, I'm realizing that STC is not (OR may not be, to be fair) the answer was I hoping it would be. I'm just looking at maps and navigation functions (excluding streaming music options, weather, and other apps, etc, which are many. Some free, some require subscriptions, and we'd probably never use most of them. Our Smart phones do all this for us.

With STC
Possible navigation solution 1: Google maps accessed via the browser. Oh never mind, browser is a driver distraction so it won't function while driving. Not sure it would continue to display driving directions or not once the car exceeded the speed that disables the browser. I suspect not.

Solution 2: buy the maps option. At almost $400 for the map data SD card, and every time you want to update your maps I think(??), versus the $200 charge for map updates for the "old" system? I don't think I want to go there at all. And it's apparently not a voice activated option.

Solution 3: iGO. I'm really not sure how this works after reading the user manual. Will this work without the map data SD card? Or does this work only with the internet connection and map data? The manual leaves much to be desired.

Oh, and with STC there's the need for a data connection running through your phone (using your phones data plan), or paying for a dongle and monthly service / data usage.

After spending hours, and getting lots of help from William Marks to find information, I'm leaning towards either sticking with Garmin or having the Volvo in-dash Nav installed. STC just looks like a lot of flash and not much useful function for how I live and drive. I'm going to keep an open mind though, unitl I can see one live and in-person. What would be interesting would be being able to use Google Maps and driving directions (or any smart phone apps) from your cell phone and having that information mirrored on the Sensus screen.

Anyone else looked into STC?
Any reviews on the current in-dash nav option?

So I am a little confused being new to the S80 scene.......I currently have Sensus (non touch) without NAV. Is the new Sensus system automatically a NAV unit provided you purchase the SD card? I too am curious about the google maps option while driving

#22 ·
The way I understand it, It doesn't matter if you had nav to begin with.

#24 ·
Thanks! If that's the case, its a worthy upgrade........I would be very much game to do this. Are part numbers available yet?

#23 ·
Hmm.

It doesn't seem likely looking at the dash in the car, but has anyone ever seen a mounting kit for double din head units for 2007+ S80's? Might be able to do as well, or better with an aftermarket unit.

#25 ·
So I found images of the instrument board for MY '07 - '11 S80 and the mountings seem to be the same as those of MY '12 V70. Assuming the mountings are correct, is there any other hardware changes between MY '07 and '12 that would prevent this retrofit from being possible.

Here are said photos.

They're available in the $200 range from junk yards.

I am still not sure if I like the newer style dash. It doesn't have the same "flowing lines" of the original dash, and I think that the updated dash is not designed in the "vision" of the car's original design team. It's kind of "lumpy" and not at all elegant, compared to the older style. I think they should have/could have kept the pop-up screen for the sensus. However, my drive to put all of the most up-to-date parts on my car makes me want to install it anyway.

#31 ·
I agree that the look isn't ideal and does look sort of like it was thrown together with little thought to the original lines. That being said I currently don't have NAV in my car and would very much like to add it along with Sensus. The new dash though not pretty would go a ways in updating the look of the car, especially considering the shifter changes I previously made.

I searched for all of the different combinations of colors and options.

I mean I just went through each selection individually. I was just trying to get an idea of pricing. I figured if I ever did it to my car, I could just wait until one became available. I just wanted to figure out what the market value of an S80 dash was in the meantime.

My dealer quoted $1700 for the upgrade installed. I have a very good B to B relationship with them but they did advise against a self install due to the software upgrades needed. The labor cost is fairly minimal to have them do the whole job.

Interestingly, I feel like we were led to believe that this would be standard on all new 2014 models. It seems that it is an accessory dealer-installed upgrade on ALL models and years as long as you have sensus to begin with. Kind of a bummer since this technology comes standard in most (if not all) of volvo's competitor's cars. I LOVE volvo's cars. They make a great product, but they really have to get with it when it comes to matching their competition as far as infotainment tech.

I am considering it, I will replace my dash anyway since it has had an airbag release on passenger side. There are a lot of used <2012 dash from junkyards here in sweden. But haven't had the time to investigate what else modules needed to upgrade to sensus. Mostly for the colour display, the lump on the dash are not as beautiful as the old one :)
