Re: Seattle R Bunch Driving Safety Event (Lead Foot 60)

Hey Steve:
I registered online over weekend. The web site indicated a reply would be sent within one business day. Is this timeframe realistic do you know ? I'm anxious to hear back obviously.
Barry

Does a day at the Barrier Track event qualify one for lower Ins. rate/premium.

Darn, that is two R events I'll have to miss. I'd love to be there since I love going fast and legal.
Well, I hope everyone will be there for the drive a few days later on the 12th.
Cheers!

Re: Seattle R Bunch Driving Safety Event (BlueDevil)

I'm confirmed for Tuesday. Total so far is 9 registrrants with a cap @ 30 so any others should have no problem and be able to get in if they register soon.
If you want to register by phone, Andrea appears to be the person to talk to. 425.455.5522 and select "Operator" to be transferred to her.
Be aware that you also need to allow enough scheulding lead-time to get the car in for a safety inspection before the event.

Re: Seattle R Bunch Driving Safety Event (StaggRLee)

I'm in, paid-up and confirmed for 8/8/06 (Tuesday's event).
Called Andrea at 425-463-2469 (direct line) Barrier Volvo in Bellevue this morning as I hadn't heard back from my web online application. First called Donna (per StaggRLee) but Donna was nowhere around and people were confused with the name (noticed StaggRLee updated from Donna to Andrea afterwards).
Andrea was very easy to work with and said it was AOK to post her name and phone # here.
I signed up for my co-driver son and myself. Son can cancel if unable to attend and Andrea will take care of cancelation and refund as necessary.
I setup my R's safety inspection at Barrier in Bellevue for next Tues. Jul 18 at 9:30am which will take about an hour or so to complete, so Andrea said - it's compulsory as well for obvious reasons. Sure glad I just installed 4 new Michelin PS2s yesterday - just in time eh! I may go with my stock front brake pads and replace afterward the event - we'll see at safety inspection and take their advice.
For those not familiar with the Pacific Raceway here's a Google map reference.
http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF...&om=1
http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF...6&t=k
The straight-away (with a slight kink midway) is said by a coworker to be about 1 mile long. One travels around the track counterclockwise. The hair pin bend after the generous curve at extreme left is encountered at the bottom of a downhill stretch which starts just after the wide generous curve. There's plenty of space to left of hair pin bend with no trees nor stumps (mostly removed by Volvo tanks ). If you look closely at the map I'm sure there's black rubber marks to be seen in this hair pin.
Looking forward to this event and for meeting up with other R owners.
Andrea indicated the Volvo crowd was taking Tuesday over.
Hmmm - what are others doing wrt getting prepared for this event ? The 100 octane sounds interesting and coworker told me they actually sell 112 octane as well - what do yer all think about the higher octane upgrade for this event? Is it worth it at around $6-$7/gallon ?
This is going to be much fun and we hopefully end up with a greater appreciation of what the engineers designed into this Volvo R auto.
Update: Just measured the straight away on the Google Satellite map and it came to approx 3000 feet - so it's only some 0.6 miles long.

Re: Seattle R Bunch Driving Safety Event (Lead Foot 60)

Came across this pretty detailed overview (turn by turn) of Pacific Raceways complements of our local BMW CCA chapter.
http://www.bmwpugetsound.com/pr_track_notes.pdf
Haven't read it closely but it looks pretty useful at first glance. I plan to study it before the 8/8 event.

Re: Seattle R Bunch Driving Safety Event (Lead Foot 60)

I ended up bumping a VP visit to our office to make Tuesday. I had a "soft-request" in for the 8th off which looked fine so I confirmed for the 8th and then he scheduled on top of the 8th.
It was looking like I'd either have to back out or quit my job, but he moved it to the 10th. Phew! I really didn't want to have to quit my job.
p.s. Who's bringing the video camera(s)? I have a Canon GL1 digital I can bring. But I doubt the instructors are going to allow it to be bungie-corded into the car while I'm driving so we may have to hand-offs if people are willing.

Re: Seattle R Bunch Driving Safety Event (StaggRLee)

I plan on bringing a mini DV cam and a still digi camera. I have high-speed sports oriented Olympus E-100RS (RS=rapid shot) digi camera with a 10x optical zoom that can be boosted to 27x zoom. It has a frame burst rate of 15 per second to catch those fleeting moments. This camera was only produced for about 18 months and then Olympus dropped it for some reason, As soon as they did this the price on this E-100RS also dropped like a brick - and I was around to get it for a real steal at around $400 (retailed for around $1500).
I don't see why the instructor would bar a strapped in mini DV camera on rear headrest. I hope not. The instructor isn't with you all the time I'm told anyway.
I'm glad your job is still intact. Several coworkers have lined up to take my place if for some reason I can't make it. Hmmmm... they will not be lucky.
My co-driver son was very excited when I told him I signed him up and agreed to go 50/50 on the overall cost. He's such a nice boy and was brought up right.

Re: Seattle R Bunch Driving Safety Event (barrysharp)

The size of the GL1 is dangerous if it were to become "mobile". But it's a great triple CCD DV camera despite it's age. I don't have a zoom lens for it so it would be limited to "digital" zoom. It's a bulky package and I won't bring it if someone is bringing better kit.
I've invited my favorite indie Volvo-certified tech as a co-driver. He's been like a son to me and my cars over the years.. so he pays his own way too. Especially if I'm going to let him lap my car!
Which is probably still easier than the dealer techs drive it.
