I have a crazy idea and need some grounding. I love the seats in my XC90, but find myself missing the seats from my old V70. I love those supportive bolsters. Are there any options for swapping in seats like that?

In the meantime, I ordered a dye kit from SeatDoctors to clean the seats up a bit. Will post some before & after pictures here.

Sport/R-Design seats have higher bolsters, that might be an easier path to follow for a direct replacement.

Somewhere on this site is the answer to your question about 70 to 90 seat swaps, don't recall it was a plug/play but I'm happy to be wrong.

I had a closer look, the front seat inner (30749831) and outer (30749830) slide rails are the same between pre-08 V70 and MY05 onward GEN1 XC90, should physically mount right up. See below for rail compatibility (30749831 as example):

Volvo S602005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009
Volvo S802005, 2006
Volvo V702005, 2006, 2007
Volvo V70 XC 2.5l 5 cylinder Turbo2005, 2006, 2007
Volvo XC902005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011
Volvo XC90 3.2l 6 cylinder2012, 2013, 2014

edit- fix XC90 applicability

Going to check out a V70 at the scrap yard to see if the seats are decent. Still waiting for my Seat Doctors kit to arrive! Looking under my XC90 driver seat, it looks like the connections on the left are for the seats and the ones on the right are for something else. Hoping to use that as a reference point to compare the V70. I only have memory and heat, so there’s no massage seat I’d be losing out on. Thinking about those supportive V70 bolsters massages my brain.

Box on left is power seat module, control and memory. Applicable to the exact same models and model years noted earlier. Right side is just an electrical block. Might have a SHM (seat heating module) behind and above the power seat module, you'll need to keep that I think for the LIN connection.

Sure you'll post more photos, and good luck with your swap.

I have good news and bad news. I went to check out a V70 at the scrap yard (on a 90 degree day) and they were crap. But! They had a 2008 S60 with beautiful bolstered seats. I really went there just to look, but I had the tools and the time so I dug in. Ripped the whole assemblies out and wheelbarrowed them to my car. In my excitement, I left my tools there and had to turn around. With my new used seats shoved in the cargo hold, I made my way home and started dissecting. It was a wonderful, clean, impossibly easy 1-1 remove and install. Not a single wire harness was left unpopulated or forgotten. It was magnificent.

I then turned the car on for the first time and got a “passenger airbag service now” message. Super discouraging. But I have VIDA and a dealership, so let’s figure this out!

A great opportunity to clean the carpets once the seats were removed, too.

Left side is S80 seat, right side is XC90 seat.

And the final product, so comfortable.

I had absolutely no plans to do this anytime soon, much less today. But hey, opportunity knocks hard and I’m a welcoming person. Seat Doctors leather dye still hasn’t arrived ($25) and I got both seats for $80.

Did you disconnect the battery during the swap?

Nope. Did I break it?
No but the srs was powered up and the lack of continuity is why you have a code. Did you also swap the occupancy sensor module from the original xc90 seat to the new s60 seat?

Yes sir, sure did. What’s the solution for the airbag light? Thanks for the quick help.

Pretty sure that's the same airbag warning I got after Costco installed new tires w/new TPMS sensor. I vividly recall I lived with it for a month or so until my DICE unit arrived and I reset it through VIDA. Hopefully it's just as simple for you.

Scanner and cleared in VIDA. Cleared from the dashboard until the second key cycle brought it back. Possible that I messed up the occupancy sensor during the installation, maybe just order a new one?

Anyone have an idea of how the occupancy sensor functions? I have it on the rail in the same spot that it was on the original seat. Perhaps I’m missing something.
