I have a new '21 XC40 T5 with less than 1k miles on it, about 1 month old. It has the auto start/stop feature turned on which has behaved perfectly to date. Today I was in traffic and stopped at a red light. Engine shut off. When light turned green and I stepped on the gas, the vehicle wouldn't move. Speedometer and tachometer went blank and there was a message at the top of the instrument cluster that said:
Vehicle Start Button
Push Vehicle Start Button

I could not accelerate until after pressing the start button with the brake, the car re started and then I could drive.

Volvo on call support said this is unknown behavior and I should bring it in for service. Has anyone experienced anything like that? Was pretty unnerving esp since it's a brand new car.

Wow, that is not good! I checked for TJ's for the 2020 and the 2021 and this is all I found. Doesn't seem to be the same problem you're having. Definitely take it in to the dealer!

I have a 2015 V60 with 115,000 mile that has auto start/stop. Less than once a year it will not restart in an intersection. I have never brought it to the dealer for that.
