So the past few mornings the secondary air pump thingofamajig has been preparing for lift off.
Is it "easier" to just replace it or remove it all together. If its a couple of hours to remove, without issue, I'm all for taking a nice Saturday and doing it but if its a piece of drama over an entire weekend then I'd settle for just replacing the darn unit and let well enough alone.... unless its really expensive for a new unit.
pros/cons to removing?
thanks.
You need it for emissions (and the CEL that will be there all the time)
If you have emissions testing in VA it WILL NOT pass without it.
(and removing the bulb does not constitute removing the stored CEL )
Erie sells them used and buy a new check valve.
When installing a new(er) unit, drill a small hole on the bottom of it
(I think Matthews has a write up about it) so the water can drain out, that's why they fail. The check valve sticks, then the unit fills with water andeventually rusts/shorts out.

Yea Hussein has done it successfully the right way. I think he may have talked to Lucky about how to do it and they brainstormed together but it definitely worked.

Re: (Big Will)

I do have emissions inspections here in VA (due in October of this year).
I'll see if I can find Hussein's info on it but if it compromises emissions probably a show stopper.
thanks guys.

Its a waste of time system and a total PIA
Hussien ditched it .
And the only cel you get is for the pump not working / on. As long as the pump runs you dont get a cel.
So he figured how to use a penteometer or something like that to fool the computer.
Or just be lazy like me and remove it and delete the CEL as needed lol

We have emissions testing in New York State as well and any CEL is an automatic fail.

Mine's been moaning ever since I bought the car, but no cel yet. I recently bought a used one and check valve from a member on VS for dirt cheap. I think he has others available. http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum...4&hl=

Re: (pelicanflyt)

Mine was squealing real bad on cold days so I replaced the CBV valve and removed the pump and lubed up the bushing with Lithium grease. One year later- no noise

To the best of my knowledge, the topic has been dealt with on VS and a "fairly" simple electronic trick fools the computer into thinking it is functioning properly after removal. That means no CEL. I am going to tackle this soon as I am not hooking it up to my new DP.
Thread is here:
http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum...09506
