Does anybody know if this will eventually be extended to the 2010 models? Any hints as to what incentives are going to be offered after July 31st? My wife and I are about ready to place an OSD order for a C70 and don't want to miss out!

No guarantee but what has happened the last SEVERAL years ( I purchased last spring for a July pick up but watched the offers for three years before I pulled the trigger is this).
As the production run comes to a close (Feb.-March) they begin to offer more incentives for ordered units, with slightly better offers on pre built units.
Then as summer hits they up the discount offer one more time.
This offer is then upped some time near the end of the summer travel season or early in the fall.
But seldom is this offer extends to the next model years production till some time in the winter but usually that offer is more of a smaller discount (or some sort in travel discount).
Then as spring comes this whole cycle starts again.
Now that being said in the current economic there is NO guarantee that they will not change their pattern, as I am sure William & Bob will confirm the discounts have been larger this year and have occurred earlier than most other year.

Re: Safe + Sound Coverage Plan - Model Year 2009 (gascos80)

Gasco, you and I realize the importance of the dealer when wanting the OSD experience. One of the things the "pre-built" list does is save time and money for those people that want custom features and are willing to wait for it.
It is a "fluid" list, and if open to the public, without the benefit of the dealer, there would be no way to actually hold the car you want. Okay, I guess you could put your down payment on a credit card, but I think that you would see the same cars go on and off the list multiple times, by people that are not really interested.
Your car still needs to be delivered - by a dealer. Can you imagine having individuals that don't deal with customs brokers, getting the vehicle thru customs and arrange trucking from port to house? Then what to do if there is damage, etc.
Maybe Munin doesn't understand the extra service you DO get by using a dealer. Yannis treated you like family and made your trip an "experience" just as Bob did for ours. I wouldn't do an OSD any other way.
    to our resident OSD guys!!!

momscar, I enthusiastically agree with you, and want to make just one comment on "pre-built" list. I think, that this information is not public but for the internal use. It can give some marketing advantage to a specific sales person, who gets hold on a desirable car for a specific client. Opening this to public would hurt those OSD reps who care to use the list and promote the program.
I might be wrong on the data clearance and our OSD reps can correct me.

Re: Safe + Sound Coverage Plan - Model Year 2009 (gascos80)

Absolutely!! My brain was working without the benefit of a full cup of coffee and I couldn't think of the right words. Thank you.
I remember when we were considering our S60, Bob was continuosly looking at the list to see if anything matched what we wanted. The one thing that made us order custom were the seats. Hubby wanted the Sport seats, and at the time, they weren't coming off the line like that, in the color(s) we wanted.
In many ways, the OSD guys work much harder (and over a longer period of time) than the average sales person. But in the end, it's much more rewarding.

Re: Safe + Sound Coverage Plan - Model Year 2009 (momscar)

The OSD stock list is meant to assist the OSD co-ordinaters at the dealership evel to offer (as Momscars said) a vehicle with perhaps a little more price advantage and certainly a quicker time frame than a custom ordered unit.
The OSD Corp office allows us to hold a vehicle for @ 48 hrs so we can finalize our paperwork, collect deposits and submit orders with completed forms and ready for processing. The people that work there are administrators, not salespeople. We (OSD mgrs) lean heavily on our Corp partners to help us keep orders moving through the system and to assist us in tracking the status of orders.
They are not staffed for dealing with anyone but OSD co-ordinators. They do a great job and there is no way you could expect them to open the inventory list up to anyone other than those of us who deal with OSD daily.
That is not being arrogant or elietist...just realistic.

Re: Safe + Sound Coverage Plan - Model Year 2009 (universityvolvoOSD)

+1 on momscar and gascos80's comments about using the sponsors of this forum as a valuable OSD resource....if not as a purchasing 'agent'.
Not sure how a thread on "2009's Safe + Sound Coverage Plan for OSD" morphed into a discussion about the OSD Pre-Built list...but there you are.
Bob, William and Yannis have been most generous with their time and advice to SS members - regardless of whether we take advantage of their expertise and experience or not.
Tom Schroeder (now with Sandberg) worked the Pre-Built list for us last spring and found a very rare, pre-built MY 08 6spd Manual C70...saving us $2000 on the OSD deposit (vs custom order) - and thousands more on incentives (Premium, Climate and Metallic Paint).
I doubt (in fact, I KNOW from 1st hand experience) that other dealers' so-called "OSD Specialists" would be as diligent and conscientious in making our 2nd OSD purchase as enjoyable.
That said - when it comes time for Mrs. Tomkat to replace her beloved, loaded Barents Blue MY 05 V50 T5 AWD with another OSD Volvo - we will take full advantage of the sponsors of this Forum. I (for one) have had more than my share of poor 'new car buying/shopping experiences' (and 2 VW Tourist Deliveries) in my lifetime...and can't imagine 'going this alone'.
