S80 Steering Wheel Swap

I've got an early S80 model which has this steering wheel:

I don't like the look of the airbag which looks like its pulled from a 90s car and makes it seem outdated.

Is there any way I can put the airbag for the newer 4-spoke and 3-spoke variant?

I heard the airbag connectors are similar, but I haven't seen a definitive guide that confirms or denies this.
There is a sticky on this topic. It's has all the details you need for the swap.

That one is just replacing the steering wheel rim with the R-Design one. I'm asking if the actual driver airbag can be changed to the 2010+ version without triggering a warning light.
It's all in there if you go through the forum. Just work the search function (it isn't that reliable). There is a detailed discussion on this somewhere on here with pictures and wiring diagrams.

Yes it can be done, and people have done it. You have swap the airbag with it. You won't get warning lights.
The newer steering wheel will have extra pins but it should plug in fine into the steering column harness. Remember to get a matching one (like if you have RTI and all)

Getting the heated steering wheel and pedal shifter to work as a retrofit will be a challenge.
