While I love my S80, the range on the remote entry is really poor. You have to be within 10-20 feet of car. Other cars I've owned, were capable of much greater distances.
Know anyway to improve this?
Is the operation of your remote similar?

That sounds quite curious to me, because our 1998 V70 and our 2000 V70 both can be opened with the remote control from really far distances (up to some 13-15) metres.
The distance is so far, that I'm happy, that the car closes itself after 2 minutes, if no door is opened.

The remote control for my Volvo does not work from very far away as well. It works far away only if the remote is high relative to the car. Try raising your hand up high when you press the button, that should help a lot. This helps for my car. I think that Volvo claims it is for security purposes, so no one can copy/grab your remote code.
-Drew

I'll try rasing my hand.
Another thing - the double press to unlock the passenger doors - sometimes is frustrating.
Let's say the car is locked. You enter with one click from the drivers door. You back the car out of the garage, and you want to unlock the rest of the doors.....
Have you noticed that to use the button on the arm rest it, you have to press twice - once to lock the driver's door, then again to unlock all the doors!
Doug,
I am not sure if you know this, but there is a long list of things that can be programmed for the S80. The dealer can use the VADIS computer and interface the S80 computer to change specific owner preferences. Things like light delay (30, 60, 90, 120 seconds, day-time running lights (ON/OFF), heated seats time, measurement units (English/Metric), and lock programming. In your case, your dealer can program your car so that it unlocks all doors with one press of the button. One press of the keyfob and armrest buttons will unlock all the doors. I have heard that some dealers charge for this service, and others do it for free. This can be done *for sure*. Hope this helps!

Hi,
I tried this on my dealer today, and I asked him to enable "Automatic Locking" so that my doors all close once I reach a speed of > 5 mph or so.
He tells me it is Impossible. 'Can not be done, either in European or American versions!'
Is there a list available with all "VADIS" functions? And is there indeed a difference between the European and American cars, other than default settings?
By the way, the performance of my remote entry system varies with the quality of the batteries in there - typically 40'+ though ;-)
Please advise,
Thanks, Antoon
S80 2.5 Diesel, '2000

quote:
Originally posted by InDy:
Doug,
I am not sure if you know this, but there is a long list of things that can be programmed for the S80. Re: Automatic Locks (GrecianVolvo)

Thee is lots of talk as to the fact that some dealers will do these changes, while others will not, or they will only do it if you pay, etc.
It is ridiculous as Volvo competitors all allow customers to choose these options if they really care.
Are there any S80's (in any market) that have the auto-locking on by default? If so, it can be set by the computer.
VW uses auto-locking on by default, but Audi has it off. Many customers of those two cars want it reversed and it can be with a simple computer code change. I had my Audi changed to single-click unlock because any other way drives me bonkers when I am accessing the rear doors. I also DESPISE with the hugest of letters auto locking. I literally would not buy a car if that feature could not be shut off. But I understand that lots of people prefer it, and they too should be able to easily have their way.

Re: (Doug Brong)

I agree with Doug... the S80 remote has the poorest range I have ever seen . I have to be within 10ft before it works!!! Why have approach lights then...you've already approached your car!!!!!
Volvo has really got to improve this, it is EXTREMELY irritataing

But the trick should work for any remote.
Yannis
