Hi Guys,
I am looking potentially at an S80 and was curious how the bluetooth works. I am on the road a bunch for work and am looking to upgrade out of my 07 Accord.
I am also curious as to how common the Nav system is found on the S80.
Thanks guys.
GC

Re: S80 Bluetooth (gs1397)

2007-2008 S80 has add-on bluetooth. Very good, dealer-installed accessory.
2009+ S80 has factory integrated bluetooth, which means you get steering wheel controls and keypad/display on the radio.
We have the Motorola kit they add-on in our 2006 V70R and it works great. Definitly makes using the phone in the car while driving very easy.
I have also used the new system in a V50 (which I believe is the same on the 2009+ S80) and it is much nicer, the extra factory integration is very nice.

I have the Motorola/Volvo kit in my S80 and it works very well. I have also that kit in my wife's 04 XC90 and again it works really well.
On the Volvo corporate website there is a pdf list of phones that they have tested with the bluetooth kit to how compatible they are.
http://www.volvocars.com/INTL/....aspx

It came with my 07 S80, and we liked it so much that we had the same system installed in our 08 XC90. My other bluetooth experience was with the cheap Motorola bluetooth that clips on the visor. Didn't work that great -- the Motorola/Volvo system is much better and not in the same league as these cheap systems.

09-S80 and the factory system works great- easy to set up for a couple phones, never had any sync issues and listen to the ipod and never miss a call. The built in controls and number key pad on the dash are a pleasure.

2009 equipted w/BT

I have an 09 V70 with the standard BT. When the phone is connected to car and I want to end a call I can press exit on the wheel or dash and call is disconnected. The display continues to show my phone type, etc but will not revert back to the radio display info unless I turn radio on/off. If I attempt to scroll tuner button it will scroll through my phonebook. Nothing in manual addresses this. Am I doing something wrong? Shouldn't the display go back to what it was prior to the incoming call?

Does this happen when you dial or when you pick up an incoming call?
On an incoming call, it should go back to the radio.
If you initiate the call you will have to exit the phone menu.

Re: 2009 equipted w/BT (VolvoMax)

It happens when I receive a call and the radio is playing. Once the call ends the display continues to read phone information. I've let it go as long as 5 minutes before turning radio off then on. I don't make many phone calls while driving so can't commnet on the other possibility but will do that later today.

Just push your FM, AM, CD or AUX button. Whatever you listened before your call. It never switch back the display automaticlly. It never bothered me.
I guess it doesn't change back because some people want to see there phone info all the time.
Glad to know that there is not a problem, although it would make sense for the system to switch back to what you were doing before the call. Thank you for the suggestion.

Hate it. Got an '07 XC70 with Nav. Love it. For some reason the S80's Nav is set up such that you cannot change destinations, search for "stuff", etc. while the car is in motion. That's fine for the driver, but the passenger should be able to do those things. Alas, you must pull off the road, stop the car, and then make your Nav changes. Pain in the a$$. I would have never paid for that option when we ordered the car if I'd have known what they did to the system, in the name of "safety". I understand that the 2010 XC90 models do NOT work that way - we have one on order and certainly hope this is the case. Another issue we have with the Nav in the '08 S80 is the lack of local street display - only major road names are shown. I suggest that you do some detailed research on the model year you are interested in if you want the factory Nav...
Jim

...so whether you recieve or make a call it automatically reverts back to the audio prior to the call? Do you recall how soon after the call ends that you get audio back? I've tested it since posting and it never returns to the previous audio.

Your previous choice of sound always starts playing again as soon as you've finished your call.

Very interesting, and thanks for doing this. My system does not work the same way yours does. When my call has ended the phone number called/received goes away and the phone type/design pops up. I did notice that the radio audio returns to the station which was playing prior to the call, but never returns to the station call letters. I guess it could have something to do with my phone too.
It is what it is......
