The S-80 (3.2) FWD weighs slightly less and has a lower drag co-efficient than the XC60 (3.2) FWD, yet the XC-60 achieves better gas mileage than the S80.
XC60: 18 city and 27 highway.
S80: 16 city and 25 highway.
Anyone care to offer a reason for the S80's lower mileage ratings?

Agreed. It is almost assuredly in the gearing. I do not thin the XC60 is as quick off the line. The taller gearing no doubt helps out on the hwy mileage. My experience has shown that the published numbers are somewhat conservative. My S80 T6 regularly does better than the EPA figures suggest.

17K miles. Steady 20 city, 25-27 highway, b/speed.
And that is in dreadful LA Metro.

Seems like that would be a prudent eco improvement.
