Hi,

I'm new here and I have a 98 S70. A couple of days ago the button that pops open the panel that covers the gas cap stopped working. Is there a way to manually open that panel? I'm running low on gas here!

Any help would be appreciated

Re: S70 How do I manually open the gas cap panel? (Adabisi)

Open the trunk and pull off the felt cover that is over the gas cap section, then look in with a flash light. There is a little lever in there (on 850's it's a pull ring, I believe) that you just pull and the panel door opens. Oil your spring and hinge and see if this solves it. If not, it could be your motor in there.

There is a release handle behind the trim inside the trunk. It's a looped wire-like thing, not unlike the releases for the side marker lights in an 850.There was a thread about this over on Volvospeed with a picture, but I could not locate it.

I think this is the one you're thinking of? http://www.volvospeed.com/Repair/mgasrelease.php

Volvospeed's repair page at http://www.volvospeed.com/maintenance.shtml has a tiny, tiny, not terribly obvious, (did I mention easy to miss?) link at the bottom of it that links to a SECOND page ( http://www.volvospeed.com/maintenance1.shtml ) full of more repair items. MIJ had to point it out to me over in the 850 forum for another question I had, just passing on the favor now!
