I've got a low 12 second Lightning that's pushing close to 11s, and I wouldn't bet money that it'd beat anything on the highway. It's basically the least aerodynamic vehicle ever built, and it's an automatic. My Lightning still struggles to keep up with M3s and Corvettes at freeway speeds.
Also bear in mind that if the Lightning has stock tires the driver better be pretty good.
I took ane out last year and during my 1st off the line shot I was surprised and embarrased by the lack of grip, (no weight over the rear wheels and the HUGE amount of torque.)
Good luck. I know I can't wait to find out the answer. I've always wanted to brag to my friends that my Volvo is faster than a Ford Pick-up. And now I don't have to risk my drivers license or my life to find out.
I had the previlege of running one as I was entering the freeway at about 90mph with him behind me. Since there was a car in front a little farther up the road I let him pass on my left and then I followed behind him as he was accelerating.
When he passed me I was doing about 100 and then gunned it and got behind him. All I got upto was 110 and he was atleast 4 buslengths ahead. And this was at 7000 ft elevation on a cold freezing night.
That thing was definitely not stock, really new, but not stock.
a while back a guy in a lightning came along side me, then blasted off. I downshifted to see if I could catch up and he just kept pulling on me.
that was before the dp/ECU reflash - and I don't think I had race gas....but he was still going pretty fast...
i think off the line or low speed rolls these things will blast off hard...our cars don't have the instantaneious throttle response/torque they do...our cars spool up pretty quick...but a supercharged V8 is ready to go like THAT!
