Last update I heard from my dealer after a phonecall with Volvo marketing, in my presence, was that probably the Paris Salon in the last quarter this year reveals the definate version of the V70/S60 R.
End of this year the Volvo HQ's for each country or at least Volvo Belgium and Netherlands have pre production models in house and probably people are allowed to see the car.
The dealer models would be ready in W10-2003 and delivery of orders should start W15-2003.
Yesterday I was at the dealer to ask about the Haldex V70 and he phoned with marketing again.
The R was mentioned also and I said that this was a big mistake from Volvo to introduce the car this late and that a few R drivers I know are shopping else at the moment.
The Volvo guy basically confirmed that this was observed by Volvo also and that it worried them.
Maybe Volvo realizes that the R is yesterdays performance Volvo by the time it comes to market.

Great news! I have heard rumors that the S60R/V70R is going to use the 2.5 liter block instead of the 2.4 liter block that was used in the PCC. Is this true, what do you guys think? I guess I am sort 'wishful thinking' here in hopes that using the 2.5 liter block will net more than 300hp that the PCC currently has, maybe closer to 320hp in final form.
-Drew

2.5 seems to be true.
Probably the same batch used for the new XC90 but with lower compression.
Should have double intercoolers and complete variable head.
I hope the block is a little over engineerd :)

The original schedule coincides with what you wrote and I think that we will see this car sooner that what they told you, in the Netherlands.
"Yesterday's performance"? Hardly. If that were the case, then half of Volvo's line-up should be erased! This car will have a lot of the latest technology and from the performance standpoint, it will be up to par with many of its competitors. Don't forget, this is a NOVELTY product and it will carve its own niche and conquer some of the M3 crowd, etc. But its main clientele will center on Volvo loyalists, Saab performance-minded drivers and yuppies!
Yannis

P.S. The US economy looks like it is turning the corner; that is good news for..."unnecessary" items such as M3s, S60Rs, S4s, etc.
Yannis
