I've been pondering what type of car would be a cheapish and fun sleeper IF I can get the funds together sometime.
On my Google searches of top Sleeper cars I ended up at one on AskMen.com and low and behold this was one if their Sleeper picks:

Audi s4 b5 (2000-2002) has always been my favorite sleeper. Twin turbo 2.7 v6 with 250 hp from the factory, quattro of course. The aftermarket options are much better than volvo offerings, there are tons of s4's with >400awhp and a few with 5-600+ awhp running gt 25/28's. I have always wanted one, they are getting very affordable to buy, maintenance is a bitch though.
Of course the s60R is a pretty good sleeper too...

Some of the cars in your list ain't "sleepers" in my book:
2003 Mercury Maruader
Early 1990s Ford Taurus SHO
1995-1999 Buick Riviera Supercharged
1995-1999 Oldsmobile Aurora
2004-2005 Pontiac Bonneville GXP
1997-2003 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP
1993-2002 Pontiac Firebird Formula
1994-1996 Chevrolet Impala SS (these are the ones with a 350 under the hood right?)

Hmmm -- if AskMen.com thinks the SR is a sleeper, does that make the VR a "super sleeper"?

I have a hard time accepting any car that doubles as a police cruiser as a sleeper.
Maybe the cops will ignore you but the rest of the folks on the highway certainly won't.

Quote, originally posted by SteveP »

Hmmm -- if AskMen.com thinks the SR is a sleeper, does that make the VR a "super sleeper"?

No, it makes it a hearse.
-Eric

Sleepers are definately fun. You can blow the doors off an unsuspecting victim, enjoy the priceless look on their face, and fly under the law's radar.

My old S60R got me a speeding ticket, but I have never been bothered at all in either of my V70Rs. I think that (at least in black), the S60R looks like a boy-racer car that will get you tickets, hence: not a sleeper.

No huge air-scoops, wings, etc. Still follows many design cues of other volvos (which is a great thing).
I have an acquaintance with a V70R who got a ticket for speeding as well. Like GM's supercharged "granny" cars, Volvo's own hi-po "granny" cars--the very conservatively styled S80 V8 and 1st/2nd gen T6 models--deserve an honorable mention as true-to-form sleepers especially considering their performance in such a seemingly ungainly large package, very subdued styling and their popularity amongst more mature persons--the very antithesis of the boy-racer crowd.
A lot of retards will diss many a fast "granny" car insisting that if it doesn't look fast at all it's not a sleeper. But that's the whole fricken' point behind a sleeper--it's surprisingly fast yet it sure as poo doesn't look like it.

I think the baseline needs to be upped. Every car (ok, not your basic kia) that is sold today comes with ridiculous power for what it is. There are more 300+hp daily drivers than any of us can shake a stick at.
Let me at that new Taurus.

Quote, originally posted by badams1897 »

CTS-V ultimate sleeper car..

And yea.... prrrrr
