42,000 miles and 2 days out of warranty my front left caliper is frozen and basically junk on a 04 S60R. Dealer will not cover it; not happy. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/tongue.gif" BORDER="0"> Unrelated but I just got laid off and my first baby is one the way in 3 months. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/smile.gif" BORDER="0"> <br>I prefer to replace both fronts so I'm looking for anyone with used ones or any kind of deal on refurbished ones. Cheapest dealer maybe? Anyone swap them out for bigger one's? Is there a non-Volvo source for the sale caliper from Brembo? Is there some place that rebuilds them?<br>Also, while I'm at it any good sources for Rotors too?

Hard to believe that your caliper is toast, perhaps salty roads the cause. The caliper on a Cadillac CTS-V uses the same parts, check with a Cad dealer for a rebuild kit.<br>

Do you know that for sure? Do you know they have a kit? I asked the Volvo dealer but they said there was no kit from them.

All Brembo calipers can be rebuilt.

Agreed, but they don't have a kit.<br>I'm a mechanical engineer with a long DIY background so I'm up to the chalange but I want the right parts. I do track time ocationally but expect to cut back on that in the future. ie I put my life on the line with my brakes.

Part number please?<br>I've gone throught this crap before with the tow hitch connector. Aparently it dosent exist except I have one for my other car with Volvo on the connector. <Sarcasm> I spent over a hour at the dealer insisting it must exist and talked to every person in service and they couldn't help me either. Asked a different guy on a different day and he found it. Not for the R but seriously huge waste of time. I have 2 other Volvo's too, 95 960 wagon and a 02 XC70. The dealer is my closest one and the next closest one is a haul but their incompentance is wearing me thin.

You should consider getting in touch with a more knowledgeable Volvo parts manager. John @ Boston Village Volvo can hook you up with euro parts and if a true Volvo kit exists he would know.<p>Otherwise you might want to check with Brembo customer service, I'm sure they can recommend a rebuild kit from their parts bin; there's nothing magic about these calipers they probably use the same rebuild kit as most STi's, EVO's, 350z/G35coupe, midrange 911's, CTS-V's, etc...

Girodisc has the parts, they sell them for the 350Z Track model<br>

It is my understanding that the R calipers are NOT the EVO ones. They use differrent brake pads. I have a friend with one and they are not the same. Unless they changed them reciently.

Dust seals and what not, I'm sure the piston sizes are pretty similar within a certain range of calipers, even if they accept different size pads to accomodate various rotors from one manufacturer to the other.

You can get the Subaru STi front kit, their part number 26297FE010 typically $70, enough for 2 calipers. I can't say for sure if the piston diameter is the same however as I have misplaced my data on R calipers. The STi ones are 46/40mm<p> <p>

So you have delt with them personally?<br>Nice Ring video. I put 2800 miles on the R in europe when I picked it up including over 20 hours on the Ring. My 6th trip I did the BMW club driving school where you are on the track for 12 hours for 2 days and 3-5 on the third day. You get to drive sections of the track over and over with out the trappings of the public. Fun.<br>My last 3 cars befre the R were M3's(stuck with the screen name <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/smile.gif" BORDER="0">). the best part was people thought it was a rental car. Untill the second day and the only things faster were 911's. I personally know Sabine Schmitz too. She came out to WI last year to visit. Got to drive around Road America with her.

I'm confused. You know the STI kit works 100% or not? If the pistons are not the same how would it work?<p>Has anyone actually done this? Like, what is in the kit? 4 seals and 4 rubber boots? What if the piston is scratched or something. I glad people are responding but I really need specifics.
