Guess you have to wait, just like the rest of us.

Paul H.,

Those are some really nice pictures! I just noticed the R on the front grille. Thanks for posting them on SS. http://********************/smile/emsmile.gif http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

Nope, it's grey metallic
Doesn't look like grey metallic. The close up of the driver side tail light makes it seem like it has a blue tint to it.

Maybe a show only color? I got this from the front page about the color offerings;

"The launch colours are called Flash Green and Titanium Grey. The new R cars are also available in four additional colours: Black Metallic, Silver Metallic, Cosmos Blue Metallic and Passion Red Solid"

What is that color in the pics on Swedespeed? Like this pic:

Ron,

Here you can see a blue in the background, in same lighting conditions. It looks very different than Grey Metallic. Cosmos has a very distinctive blue/purple look under fluoroscent lighting. I will see if I can find a better picture.

Drew or anyone else: If you have a pic of the Cosmo blue, that'll be great. Now I need to settle down on a color choice. The Cosmo blue sounds great and the Grey Metallic looks great. Which to choose...which to choose...

I suppose the floroscent lighting is making the Grey metallic look off. I can see it is a light grey in the first 2 pics but the 3rd pic looks like it has some blue in it. I do need to see this in person now. I'm drooling over here too much

Can't belive it but that is the same car! Notice the white S60 in the background in the 2nd pic. That looks great! Still want pics of the Cosmo Blue metallic though. But the grey metallic is real HOT. http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

I can see myself owning that color.

Re: (methods)

Some news about S60R/V70R if you haven't read this.
_______
October 01, 2002 (From Volvo in the news in the Volvl website)

Volvo S60 R and V70 R: Refined Turbo Technology for Top Performance

The most powerful engine in the Volvo engine range, 300 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque, 0-100 kph in 5.7 seconds, Six-speed manual gearbox, Five-speed automatic transmission with Geartronic

Even on superficial inspection, it's obvious that the engine in the Volvo S60 R and V70 R is out of the ordinary.
The characteristic R-blue color is repeated in the engine and cam belt covers. The intake manifold has a designed cover with aluminium finish and the R logo. The aluminium finish is repeated in the charge air pipe from the turbo, which is in a dominant position in the engine compartment.
The powerful engine design is matched by the facts: the five-cylinder 2.5 liter in-line turbocharged engine is the most powerful engine in the Volvo range. It is a further development of the 2.3 liter engine in Volvo's T5 models.

TOP CLASS PERFORMANCE
The 300 hp (220 kW) power output at 5250 rpm and the 400 Nm of torque between 1950 and 5250 rpm place the R-engine among the market leaders in terms of power output per liter of cylinder volume. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 kph and the S60 R accelerates from 0 to 100 kph in 5.7 seconds (V70 R, 5.9 seconds) with a manual gearbox (preliminary figures).
The engine reaches maximum torque already at 1950 rpm, thanks to the larger volume and a new turbo from KKK, with a maximum charging pressure of about 1 bar. Since the high charging pressure significantly raises the temperature of the intake air, the S60 R and V70 R are fitted with two charge air coolers.
The engine is equipped with Dual Wide Range CVVT, continuously variable valve timing, on both the intake and exhaust camshafts. CVVT adjusts the valve opening times to suit the engine speed and load. This means that the engine is utilized more efficiently, giving higher performance, lower fuel consumption and reduced emissions.
Pistons and connecting rods are heavily reinforced to withstand the increased stresses, and the cylinder head cooling has been improved.
The sump has been re-designed to safeguard the oil supply to the engine under extreme G-forces.
New six-speed manual gearbox
The newly-developed six-speed manual gearbox is amply dimensioned to handle the high torque delivered by the engine. Gearshift travel is short, giving the driver immediate, distinct information that the gear is engaged. This makes for fast changes.
The Geartronic automatic transmission has five speeds. With Geartronic, the driver gets the best of both worlds: the gearbox takes care of all gearchanges completely automatically, or the driver can change gear manually, but without a clutch.
The automatic transmission is also adaptive; in other words it monitors the driver's driving style and adapts the gearchanging pattern accordingly. It also has a "Sport" mode selector in which the automatic transmission changes gears at a higher speed and downshifts faster.
As for emissions, the R-engine satisfies the American LEV I requirements and conforms to the European Euro 4 standard.

The new Volvo S60 R and Volvo V70 R Combine Ultimate Driving Experience with Intelligent Functionality

True performance car, Ultimate driving experience combined with intelligent functionality, Sales start spring 2003, 7,000 cars per year

The new Volvo S60 R and Volvo V70 R are true performance cars.
They are designed for the ultimate driving experience without compromising the intelligent functionality that is the hallmark of Volvo.
"In the R car you can feel like a racing driver, but you don't have to be one to control it", says Hans Nilsson, Car Line Manager R, Volvo Car Corporation.

THREE-BUTTON INTERFACE
According to this philosophy, it gives the driver easy access to the extremely sophisticated technology.
This is why the interface between man and machine comes in a very smart and functional package - the three Comfort, Sport and Advanced Sport control buttons.
"If you are interested, you can immerse yourself in the technology and learn all about the features. Alternatively, you can just use your finger to choose which type of driver you want to be. It takes just a push on a button to change from the ultimate performance car to a relaxing family car. One thing is for sure, though. Both will give you the time of your life", says Hans Nilsson.

IMAGE BOOST
All previous R launches - from the first-ever introduction of the yellow T-5R in 1995 - have helped make driving pleasure an even stronger Volvo virtue. The mission of the new R concept is to give Volvo an even firmer presence in the "driving excitement" category.
"This time, the message is much stronger since the technology level in the new R concept is much higher", says Hans Nilsson. "Our previous R models were focused on extreme estate cars. This time, we are also showing that we mean business with a sports sedan. We have enhanced the driving experience in the S60 R, which is an exceptionally fun-to-drive car even in standard form. We therefore expect to sell more S60 R than V70 R models."

ON SALE NEXT SPRING
Sales of the new Volvo S60 R and Volvo V70 R start in spring 2003. Volvo expects to sell 7,000 R cars a year, and the five largest markets are the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan and Sweden.
The segment is extremely male-dominated. In Europe, 97 percent of the buyers of such cars are men. The corresponding figure for the United States is 94 percent.
However, there are differences between these major markets.
"This type of car attracts a younger buying group in Europe. Here, it's more about posing and performance, while the American buyers have a more relaxed attitude. They look for a top-of-the-line car that is fun to drive," says Hans Nilsson.

Does this mean that the S60R will somehow be better than the V70R? Will the suspension modes be that different between the sedan and wagon?

I really love the S60R but want to get the V70 for versatality sake.

Re: (B518T)

The S60 is a slightly smaller car, that and the fact that it is a coupe and weighs less than the V70 all make it "a little more fun" to drive.

I think that is what they ment.

Personally I will be all over the V70 http://********************/smile/emsmile.gif http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

I really do hope this is what they mean. I love the tail lights on the S60. But I keep thinking of how the V70 is so much more practical. I just helped a friend move yesterday and I barely got this bird stand into my Passat's trunk. (well, if you ignore the amps I have under the rear deck http://********************/smile/emwink.gif )
