Hi guys,
I am currently proud owner of a 2003 S60R awd manual /BSR chipped. Driving the R for 4 years now and always driven Volvos (before S60R I had a 850R).
This Saturday I am going to testdrive the new 370Z. Got a call from Nissan dealer and from what I have heard so far the Z is hard to beat price/quality. You get a lot of performance for your $$$
If after Saturday the Z convinces me, only downer would be the low-trade in value of the R. Car market is very bad for the moment and 300+ HP cars are not really easy to sell ))
What are your thoughts on the 370Z guys. I think the Z will beat even a chipped s60R. Very strong quarter mile numbers. Big engine, ...
Greetz
Joeyy

Looks like you wont have the R for much longer.
The 370Z is one of the best sports-cars on the market.

Well, you're comparing a four-door AWD sport sedan with a turbo to a naturally aspirated RWD coupe. To me, those are two totally different applications.
That being said, the Z is a tremendous sports car for the money. Maybe a bit unrefined in terms of interior and road/drivetrain noise, but that's the trade-off between $ and performance. The 6 speed manual is nice!
Cheers,
J

As mentioned completely different cars...I suppose if it doesn't snow and you don't need awd, 370Z sounds like your new car.

before you spend all this money on a Nissan, why dont you take the 335i coupe for a spin - you'll fall in love and will come to realization that Nissan just feels cheap

For the money, you can't beat these cars

I agree with Magoon and well, just about everone else who said something like "unbeatable car for the money". Yes, they're apples and oranges to the R but it doesn't sound like you're weighing the benefits of one vs. the other. I've seen a bunch of the 370s and as nice as they are in pictures, I think they look even better in person. I think they make the 350 look a bit dated. I've been keen on taking one out for a drive but just haven't had the time. Based on all of the reviews, it's a great car. Is the new NISMO version out, too?
-Eric

If you're spending that much, get a 335d. But that would be buying for me instead.

The Z starts out priced in the high $20s...the Bimmer in the low-mid $40s. A 335d will easily set you back $50K with a few standard features/options. A fully loaded 350Z NISMO might be $39-40K.
And, while diesel might be the new black, for my money I'd still go with a 335xi over the 335d. The petrol engine offers available AWD, doesn't redline at idle and (currently) offers far more tuning options...but that's neither here nor there and, you're right...that would be buying a car for me (or you)...not him.
-Eric

Re: S60R / 370Z (Sue Esponte)

I really love the new 370Z's, but I just have a feeling they are going to be just as abundant if not more common than the 350Z's were. So if rarity comes into play you might want to think about that. Good luck tho

Seems like a nice car with a lot of cool go-fast features. That VQ engine sounds FANTASTIC with an exhaust, is silky smooth, and bulletproof. They have fun stuff like synchro-rev matching on the downshifts (it heel-toe's for you). Personally, I've never been a fan of the styling or interior, but if you like it, that is what counts. Good luck, keep us updated~

370z is a nice car, good HP. Very comparable to the speed of my tuned R; the z is a bit slower top end. The interior/feel of the car is not that impressive. Not sure if you're making the Z your daily, if not I'd look at something more sports oriented.

Re: (hoagrod)

The Z is a solid car IMO. I had a 350Z prior to the R and I loved every second of it. The VQ engine has a unique exhaust note and the stock short throw shifter was one of the best I've had. I can only imagine the 370Z is even better.
One thing to consider is the 2 seater deal. This was my biggest downer for the car, especially on Saturday nights when going out with friends when everyone wants to car pool. Make sure it fits your lifestyle

The Z is nice, no doubt, but its a different type of vehicle and 5 years newer. It better be nice. Think of them as both brand new....
The R in 2003 vs the 370 in 2009. No comparison, at all.

Re: (S60R1)

My Wife's brother, father and uncle all own 350z'. They love them and I have had my fair share of driving time too.
The interior is definitely not worth much. But that all goes away when you put your right foot to the floor! The 370z is probably just as awesome.
