My name is Kevin. I own a Volvo S60 T5 2001. I did not upgrade the car at all but I have to tell you something. Unless you got nitrus on your car you got problems on the road with me. I came here to this froum because I wanted to see how you are all enjoying the most wonderfull car on the road. I don't get some of you. You are complaining about power? Are you all sick? If you are a new Volvo driver then I understand but if you are previeus drivers I would shut up. Man the S60R is crazy fast. 0 - 60 in turbo cars is really not that great no matter what car but what happens after 60 is crazy. Have patience enjoy the car and learn to drive it because I know that many of you just talk but are Crapping in your pants when you go past 130 mph. I will start posting videos of reagular S60 T5 toying with 2004 BMW M3 and C32 AMG on the hyghway. Then you will be convinced. Please don't post anymore junk about the S60R not being all that.

With the CAI if you are lucky 3 HP.
With the DP/Catback and stock ECU -10 HP, yes that's a minus.

Add to that the car is a GT and we can all see it running off from E46 M3s...rrright

Maybe one of those test cases Volvo is putting in the market every now and then.
My brother owned a B5244T3 T5(!) once...
Probably the engine coming to the new T5's next year? But his T5 was MY2001.
But it also could have been a faulty labeled distri cover from factory.

For the power levels you're talking about, a new and larger intercooler will be mandatory I would think.
Definitely. I THINK Evolve is making a kit. If not I'm sure I could something fitting. The main thing I'm worried about is having the ECU tuned... I think I'd probably have to drive out to BSR in Chicago.

#1: M3 drivers had no idea that a race was happening and they leisurely accelerated to cruising speed. M3 driver thought to self: "Oh look at that nifty Volvo out for a Sunday jaunt, that boy looks a little like my great-grandson".

Re: S60 R CUSTOMERS (ChuckB)

if you all remember i was not the one at the beginning of this thread with an even more under powered car claiming to play with e46 m3 and c32 amgs so i have not seen him post any info on his bs. if you all believe me or not i could really care less i am just trying to show you guys a nice S60R that is a change what what you see on this board and everyday on the street. Wheather you guy want to respect me or not. I was still not the one that claimed to play with these other cars.

C'mon guys , leave this guy alone.
At least he's got the guts to experiment with his S60R.

BOOSTED S60 R, it seems I may owe you an apology.

If you can get enough additional performance out of your R to best an M3, then my hat's off to you. http://********************/smile/emcocktl.gif

While not calling your veracity into question, I would love to learn how you managed to pull this off. The modifications you mention in your signature would seem inadequate to overcome the 33 horsepower difference between an S60 R and an M3.

Of course relative driving skill may explain much of these results, and if so, good job.

Don't forget that the GT also has lower torque than manual model to start with.

Hmmm...torque may not be so much of an issue if the race was from a rolling start?

Also, don't forget the GT has an even lower torque output than rated torque in 1st and 2nd gears, and don't forget that it won't rev past about 5800rpm in 3rd gear and higher.

I have a ton of experience with the R GT, which I have shared all my factual data from 1/8th mile strip runs and G-timer measurements in this forum, along with experience running the GT versus my 540i (where the 540i runs away from it like a scalded dog). I've run the 540i versus an M3, and the E46 M3 pulls pretty good on it. There is no circumstance short of major ECU modifications, GT reprogramming, and probably turbo/intercooler upgrades in which an R GT will be anywhere close to a stock E46 M3 (assuming the transmission lives through the experience anyway).

Probably would still matter if we are talking about 5~10mph rolling start.

I wouldn't consider it a race if I played with someone on the highway from 55 to 80 mph. And we have to remember that many experienced drivers can easily put these M3s to low 13s as they were supposed to perform from the factory. M3s are not impossible to beat if you put someone who can't drive for jack behind the wheel.

True, we don't know the circumstances. I don't think I have never actually "raced" anyone by any reasonable definition of the word, but I've had a fair abount of experience driving "assertively" on open stretches of the Autobahn, alone or with other drivers. There are often opportunities to demonstrate a car's rolling start capabilities--and I definitely don't mean from 5-10 mph
