Hello everybody,
my S60 2.4 (140HP) Optima will arrive in April, after a very bad experience with a Rover 75 2.0 CDT (front suspension clonks). I was so unhappy for this problem, so I decided to buy my first Volvo: where is the problem? In the Volvospy S60 forum I have read that some S60 T5 owners have heard a noise coming from rear suspensions. One of them have solved this problem mounting the standard rear shocks instead of the sporty ones, but others that have the standard ones can't solve it.
My S60 should have standard shocks on Dynamic chassis (not Sport, as Italian characteristics), but now I'm afraid that the money I will spend to change my car will not make me happy as I expected.
Please, S60 owners (especially same model), can you tell me if your car have this problem?
Thanks a lot and greetings from Italy,
Giuseppe

I read about one or two isolated cases of
noise in the rear of the car. Not sure of
the cause or remedy. Might have been defec-
tive shocks, jack or loose battery, or
driver'r unfamiliarity with 'thud' that
performance tires make when riding over
bumps. Whatever---complaints about rearend
noise have not been widspread. My T5 has
no such issues.

I agree that some T5s have the noise probably because they were defective. I have not had any problem with the rear suspensions and a friend who has had the car for 2-3 months (done > 5000km) also has not encountered the problem.
Then again, it could be that Volvo has given us such a good sound system so that the rear noise is drowned by the music. Only joking!
Seriously, as with all cars, there are some lemons out there. It is really one's luck but do pray for divine intervention.
The T-5 I'm driving has so far been extremely smooth and road grip is great. I have not felt so comfortable going over speed regulating strips before. Rest Assured, I will let you know if any problems do arise.
