Hi,
Just like to check out what the other
Singapore S60 owners did to
their cars....
e.g. V-Kool, Zymol, etc..
As for me...
Upgraded to HU803 but not the premium
speakers.
Still contemplating on V-Kool or SunCool.
Maybe I may add the mudflap when I visit
SM Motors next.
Not willing to spend too much $$$ for
carnabau wax.....
Reverse sensor and 10 piece changer (for
a total of 14 CDs).
Let's create an informal Singapore
S60 owners group and exchange tips
and advice.
Be sure to check that the reverse sensor is compatible with the electronics of the car.
A lot of dicussion has been going on to the effect that non-compatible sensors may interfere with the electronics of the car. Are you considering the original or a non-OEM sensor. How much does the original cost?
The mud flaps are going for $65/pair but takes 2 hours to install and requires drilling.
P.S. Why did you have to upgrade the Hi-Fi? Didn't the car originally have the HU-803?

Reverse sensor was installed by SM Motors... So assume it SHOULD be original ;-)
I thought I heard that the antenna is on the
bumper that's why there may be problem with
other sensors.
Mine is not a T5.... so standard with 603 only.... Does the T5 comes with 13 speakers?
Between the Premium Speakers and Reverse Sensors, I chose the reverse sensor. So I do not know what I am losing out on the sound system.
Did your T5 comes with powered side mirrors with illuminating lights?

Hi fanatic,
I like to know how much did you pay for the reverse sensor for your S60? Also do you enjoy your sound system?

More than S$1000 I think... about the same price as installing the premium speakers. So I opted for the reverse sensor instead of changing 9 brand new speakers to 13 premium speakers.
The HU803 is awesome... I used to have a 640W amplifier and a JBL bass tube in my old car.... but it is nothing compared to what I am enjoying now.... (of course the quietness of the S60 does help alot). And to think that this is without the premium speakers!!! So I am really keen to find out what I am missing out from the 4 extra speakers that I did not upgrade to.
Try listening to Enya and New Age on the 803, its so soothing that you almost just want to park your car aside and fall asleep :) Vanga boys and funny songs like "who let the dogs out" also rocks!!!
So what did you select for your S60?
Dear Fanatic,
The T-5 has only 9 speakers. Sound is incredible but you notice a quality difference between the CD sound quality and the radio. I think the CD changer is top notch.
Wow! $1000 for the reverse sensor. Pretty exorbitant. But I do realize that it is helpful as I have not got used to the length of the car.
Yes, the side mirrors are electronically operated with lights below. Functional? I doubt so.
PS Listen to Eagles Hotel California. Boy that rocks.
If you noticed, the interior of the S60 is quite dark. I think that the windows are already treated to filter of U-V light.

[This message has been edited by damyeu (edited 02-20-2001).]

Hi Damyeu,
Well.. at least the reverse sensor works extreme well... it does not beep all the time, only when it is nearer to any objects behind the car as compared to some other oem sensors which beeps all the time. And I do not have to lower the back headrest down everytime that I do parallel parking or 3 point turn.
Do you have fog lights too??? Did you also add the 10 piece changer? (I now have 4 piece changer in front and 10 behind and still would like to have more for my CD collections :) )
Ever thought of upgrading to premium speakers? You get 4 extra speakers as well as getting 2 front speakers changed to bigger ones.
Actually I think the T5 is more value for money as for 20K you get all the accessories worth about 8K plus a 250BHP engine plus 8K more for OMV. And you only pay 300cc more for road tax.
Let me calculate:
Cruise Control $800+
Trip Compuyer $600+
HU803 $2200+
Power Door mirror $700+
17" Rim $800+
Power Passenger seat $???
Sports Seats $???
250HP Engine $Priceless!!!
;-)
So what colour if your T5? My 2.0T is Ash Gold.
As for the UV protection, I do know about it but I used to have V-Kool for my old car and it blocks out infra-red also.... so on a hot day you do not feel the sun... real cool..
I am contemplating doing something similar for my S60.... now when is my next payday coming??? :)

I'm confused, the T5 is supposed to come with 13 speakers. But here in Singapore they say we have only 9 speakers. If you count the number of speaker housing, yes there are nine, but according to Volvo the following are the specs for the HU 803 with 13 speakers:
HU-803 AudioMax Premium Sound System
4 CD in-dash sound system, 4x50 watt amplifier, Dolby® ProLogic, with dual diversity antenna
Speakers
Front doors: two 8" bass, two 3" mid-range, two 1" treble
Rear doors: two 6.5" bass/mid-range
Hatshelf: two 8" bass/mid-range, two 1" treble
Instrument Panel: one 6.2 coaxial center loudspeaker, or one 4x2 with GPS Navigation System option.
Last I counted I do have 13 speakers in my T5 if we count the number of speakers inside the speaker housing. Am I right?

How do you know there are speakers in all the housings? I believe we only get the basic 8 speakers plus the center speaker with HU803.
There is no upgrade of speakers available from SM Motors. If you want the premium speakers you have to pay $1300 to replace the eight basic speakers with twelve premium speakers. The basic speakers have smaller sized bass cum midrange. The premium speakers have bigger bass and separate midrange.
I am still trying to find someone who have installed the premium speakers so that I can compare and see what I am missing out. I love my current HU803 but if the difference between the basic and the premium speakers is very obvious, I may decide to starve a few meals and upgrade :)

[This message has been edited by fanatic (edited 02-20-2001).]

There is a post somewhere where I downloaded a brochure on volvo's audio offering. The brochure showed the location of the 13 speakers and it match with what I have. Using a torchlight, you can check that the front doors have 3 speakers each at the bottom are two speakers and another 1" treble at the top, that makes it 6 speakers. The rear doors 2 speakers that makes it 8. The hatshelf have 4 speakers, two 8" bass/midrange and 2 1" treble that makes it 12 and last but not least one centre speaker that makes it 13 altogether. Or I'm counting the wrong thing?
[This message has been edited by makwok2000 (edited 02-20-2001).]

Oh really!!!! What a pleasant surprise!
I will go and buy a big torchlight now and check out my car speaker housings to see if there are speakers in all of them.
And are you referring to the PDF file with the picture of a hairy leg on the second page? :))
[This message has been edited by fanatic (edited 02-20-2001).]

Anyone know when to change the engine Oil. I call up my salesman and he told me that it should be 15000km! that's when we send the car for servicing every 15000km. Is this right? I thought it should be around 5K-10K. I have not manage to get hold of their service manager yet to confirm. My T5 has already done 5500Km.

Yes... I was also told that it was 15000km.
My previous car was also a continental and it was also serviced once every 15000. (though as a kiasu singaporean, I did it in 12000 ;-) )
[This message has been edited by fanatic (edited 02-22-2001).]

Hi makwok2000,
I supposed that the car is using synthetic engine oil that's y is every 15K KM. Maybe the trip computer will tells u when its time for servicing. As for the audio, if I'm not wrong, your car is one of the first batch to arrive Singapore. Coz I heard from the salesperson that those cars from the 1st batch comes wif the 13 speakers. Now 9 speakers.
Wonder how true!!!
By the way what is the run-in period(How many KM) for the T5.

Anyone checked the number of speakers in their car? I hope all of you have the same 13 speakers. As for run-in period I was told that there are none. But to be safe I do not go beyond 120Kmh for the first 2000Km and not to rev. the engine beyond 5000rpm.
Had a scare this morning while sending my daughter to school. While driving under a Pong Pong tree (not sure the actual name) you know those trees with big round and hard fruit. One hit the roof of the car with a loud bang! I immediately stop to survey the damage. I was fortunate, there is only a very slight dent barely visible, unless you really know where it is you can hardly notice it. Never ever park under one these trees!

The roof is one of the worst place to have dents. PDR will not able to help you recover to original condition. If you got side dents, PDR can return most of them to original condition. (I got 2 dents on one of my doors, fortunately PDR was able to access to them via the window and now the dents are gone.)
Next time park under a lemon tree ;-)
Paintless Dent Removal, they specialises in removing small dents from your car. They are at Capitol Centre, 141 North Bridege Road.
I'm debating whether to put Vkool on my car. Anyone have any experience comments on Vkool? By the way I didn't realise that I have actually done 5935Km on my S60! I would have had my S60 for 2 months in 2 days time. Shows how much I love driving it.

Don't know about you but I feel cooler in the car. Wonder whether the glass is already treated to filter U-V and IR rays.
