Subaru used to have a crossover sedan. ...I do believe there's a reason they no longer have it.
Correct, no one bought those just the wagons and no one in the US will buy this.
A dumb move.
VCNA does not have the extra money to piss away on this monstrosity

So this comes to the US market, yet we can not get a manual transmission? Wake up Volvo Cars of North America!

I would like to see a little more power either from a Polestar tune for the T5 5cyl or perhaps the base 300hp T6 6cyl that was previously optional on the S60.

a state of despair, typically one that results in rash or extreme behavior.

If I had seen this coming I wouldn't have bought my V60rd.

inteller stole my thunder with the AMC pic...LOL This may fly with the vikings, Aussies and ametuer Paris-Dakaar rally boys, but IMO, you may as well get the V60 CC with its added practicality. ;) w.a.p.e - don't get me wrong, I like seeing the variety, and thanks for posting!

Volvo, keep up the good work , and how's that delivery schedule going with the SPA cars, since you seem to have excess time and resources for mutant models? And maybe throw an AWD system on the current e-engined cars? While you're at it, a N. American bound diesel for the wagons and SUV's would be nice please. Sorry, had to... :p

I live in Australia and I can already assure you that nobody's gonna want to buy the S60 CC. If people are going into the outback, they'd bring a 4x4, not a Volvo lol. Plus, I don't get it. What's the difference between this and a normal S60 AWD besides it being 65mm higher and body cladding?

We have identified a clear niche in the market for a more capable sedan with rugged styling cues and a higher stance. The S60 Cross Country will appeal to people that are searching for an exciting and capable sedan, whilst enjoying the clear benefits that a crossover offers," said Alain Visser, Senior Vice President Sales, Marketing and Customer Service.
LOL, isn't this the XC60 "niche" market? Clearly an attempt at trying to deduce the white space on their web page. How about diversifying your niche market offerings with a good looking sporty coupe, say, the Concept Coupe?

I said I wouldn't have bought my V60rd meaning that I would not have bought a Volvo at all. This is like throwing sh_t against the wall to see what will stick. I assume Volvo's marketeers know what they are doing, that is, if they have a marketing department. Remember the Cadillac Cimarron, let's take a Chevy Cavalier and call it a Cadillac.

It's another offering with almost zero development cost. I think it's a smart idea and will most likely add more S60's sales. I'm all for any offerings that help NA sales. They really need it and it's good for us as well.
I'm seeing hardly any new generation S60's or new S80's out on the road. If this attracts some new buyers, that's a good thing.

V60, V60 Cross Country, XC60, S60 Cross Country. . . IMO none of these match up to the XC70 as a rugged, dependable, all around wagon.

we've been hearing that for quite a while and sales continue to go down in the U.S. - I think this is the wrong direction for a Volvo. The S60 overall design is that of a 4 door coupe, a sporting sedan yet now that is being diluted with this. I think lack of emphasis on sporting attributes is where Volvo has gone wrong.

I don't care for it... I don't even get the point of the V60 Cross Country...

If you wanted something that handled like a car, had plenty of ground clearance and had a bit more room why not just buy a XC60?

At least here in Canada there isn't a large enough price difference between an equally equipped V60 and XC60 to not buy the XC60 if you wanted the higher ground clearance.

Exactly. No "R" in their future but this? And to tease with a 400hp cyl with no intention of marketing? WTH?

This model will die a horrible death. Our condolences.

without the life gate opening like a hatchback - even the BMW 428i Grand Coupe offers more utility. I'll even take the new X4 over this garbage.

#41 ·
for some of us, a hatch is LESS utility than a trunk. Some of us want a secure place that can be securely locked. A trunk.

If someone wants different utility than the sedan with trunk, they can buy the V60/XC60, IMO

I like the S60 XC as it gives sedan drivers some additional capacity, should they desire it. If you get a bit of extra road clearance, that is valuable to some folks. Doesn't seem that this costs much for Volvo to support, so I don't understand the negative comments. But I understand if a person says they don't want one. That's fine. But saying it's "bad" from an overall marketing perspective? I don't see it.

it's funny that people can get upset over Volvo offering something ADDITIONAL to the market

if you don't like it, don't buy it

There isn't a car company out there from whom I'd buy EVERY product they sell. So what if they sell some products I'm not interested in? Agreed that Volvo has limited resources. If this is a resource drain, then I am not 100% supportive. Otherwise, I am glad they are trying to offer MORE to the market.

#45 ·
I think you nailed it. This car will hardly cost Volvo a cent to build, but it'll probably have a few hundred more people into the showroom each month, which can only be a good thing. Like you said, no one is forcing you to buy this, and for that, I'm glad...:D

The S60 is a great car and they are milking the platform. I actually think the S60 CC exterior looks nice, and the S60L interior looks nice too. Only issue I see is it may make the less common configuration combinations available on dealer lots, which makes it more likely you have to order to get exactly the options you want.

#43 ·
It's an easy and wise way for volvo to introduce another car for little cost, like BMW did with the GTs. It doesn't matter if you like it, a few hundred people will, and incremental volume is still an increase in volume.

A hatch or fastback look would have been better, but much more money to develop.

It's not my cuppa tea, but I think they'll sell plenty of them in the Northeast. S60s sell well here, XC everything sells well here, so I suspect a good number of middle-aged men are going to see this and say "Wait, I can have my sedan and AWD and ground clearance?" They'll be buying into a gimmick...and probably a very good car...but the point is they'll buy.
