It's funny how a lot of cars look great from the front in either black or silver, and look better from the back in the opposite colour. Take the S60. Gorgeous car, but the REAR looks better in a DARK colour and the FRONT looks better in a LIGHT colour.
Just generally, what do you all prefer - Silver or Black?

Re: S60 - better in Silver or Black? (oliver2015)

I think black is the best colour for just about any sedan, but I'm especially impressed by the S60 with a Black Sapphire metallic finish.
Volvo could introduce a bit (just a bit) of chrome (I know- gasp) to provide some contrast, but I still favour the Black S60 to any other hue.
Sure, the maintenance is a bit higher, but it's worth it.
The S60 looks cool in Silver.
In Black, it's timeless and classic.
With a car that could last 18 years, I'll go with timeless and classic.

Re: S60 - better in Silver or Black? (Harrison)

Don't you think black on a car hides all the little design features like the area around the front fog lights, etc?
My ideal S60 would be black at the back and silver at the front, but then that would look ridiculous. Hard call.
Black tends to make cars look less conspicuous, whereas silver makes them stand out and seem big and imposing.
Yes I agree with you - black looks timeless and classic on almost all cars. I reckont he worst colour is red. It looks neither classy nor sporty really. I'd leave an S60 in red or burgundy/claret well alone...

Black's really nice if it's clean. Classy, regal. Had a black car before this, and it looked great after it's bath, but after a week or so, you can see dust easily.
Silver's trendy, easier to maintain if you're always out and about. Can't see a layer of dust if you don't clean it a few weeks.
I think Silver is faster too..
I would go with Titanium. Just the right mix of black and silver!
-Drew

Since Volvo opted not to provide body colored moldings, the car looks much better with black paint to match the black trim, IMHO.
Re: S60 - better in Silver or Black? (fishman)

Ditto~
Plus black does look a lot better on the S60 than silver. Silver on the S60 looks a bit boring, doesn't stand out as much. Instead of chrome, I think high polish with clear coat on the wheels would go a long way for this black car.
I have both black truck and silver car myself, silver is just a lot easy to maintain...doesn't get dirty that easily like the black.
But if they can do a very dark blue metallic...and I mean DARK...on the S60, I think it'd be very nice looking, too.

Re: S60 - better in Silver or Black? (The_one_n_only)

Isn't the colour called "Cosmos Blue" (in Europe) near to the colour you say you would like?
I think when I order my S60 next summer I'm going to go for Dark Grey - not Titanium. Dark Grey blends in perfectly with the plastic bumpers. On black models, the bumpers still stand out. I will probably go for a beige interior.
What do you all think to the colour that's called Maya Yellow in Europe? It's the yellow colour seen on most of the S60s in the Volvo brochures. I like it, but I still think it looks a bit common (read: Cheap and tacky). Still, it really makes the lovely rear lights stand out.
Oh.... on the point about cars getting dirty, I kinda like to see a luxury car with dust lighhtly covering it. I'm not sure why, but where I live, it's often the sign that someone "knows their cars" and doesn't really care too much about it in terms of "showing off." Dirty A6 Avants look quite good.... *laugh*

PS - to all the people who like black-on-black, don't you think it's nice to have conrtasting interiors, like Silver-on-black or black-on-beige?
Just my opinon. Anyway, it's all a bit of fun...

Cosmo blue is okay on the S60, not too impressive. But looks great on the C70. I want something even darker for the sedan.
That dark grey is awesome. Saw that on the C70 last time during a GTG. Is it very close to the new R's dark grey? Yeah, I do agree with that dark grey those plastic trims won't stand out as much.

Regarding your point about the contrasting interior, I'd certainly agree.
A Black car with a Black inside looks a bit lifeless to me.
Especially when one considers the lack of bodily contrast on the outside of the S60 (this harkens back to my earlier comment about chrome).
It becomes a sort of black-hole.
A light sand or taupe interior brings the Black S60 together nicely.
As for you point concerning the loss of recognizable detail on the front of a Black car, I guess I'd differ to your preference on that.
I think the details come through just fine, not at 21:00 mind you, but during the day I think the black (particularly the Sapphire Metallic) does just fine.
It's all perception in the end.

Try keeping a dark car looking clean, even when a light coloured car is slightly dirty, it is not as depressing as when a dark car gets just a bit of dirt on it.

I think the best looking S60 is the Carbon Grey Metallic. I got a Black Sapphire with black interior because it was on our lot and I got a good deal. Plus, there were hardly any Carbon Greys with Graphite interior and a 5 speed available this past summer. I'm not disappointed though, I love how it looks. The darker colors help hide the unpainted trim moldings which I'm not too fond of, and when you finally throw some nice tint on the windows it really looks like a beast!

black on black looks stealth...
but way too many people have it.. including me.
but at least im one of the rare-er ones that actually keeps the baby clean and 90% scratch free. swirls are at the minimum any black car owner could have

Personally I like blue or black on S60.........I've a Cosmos Blue S60 2.4T......I was gonna go for a black S60 when I purchased my car, but I thought black is too common on the street and it didn't have metalic black at the time.....only those dull black color......on the other hand......Cosmos blue is kinda unique in a way.......it's more of a mature blue color and not like those Japanese fixed up cars' "laserblue" type of color........

Silver and grey look like they forgot to paint the car. Personally, I've always thought those colors were the most boring.
Black looks best on all the Volvos models due to the dark grey rocker panels/spoiler lips/bumper lips and moldings they unfortunately choose to use. I love bright blues and reds, but it doesn't look nearly as good without color matching the items listed above. White can also look amazing with color matching parts.
Just my opinion.

Hey,
I think black would suit any car, let alone a S60.
Better still, would be a black car, with a red interior.
