Hello.
I am the current owner of a s40 1.9T (US) and am considering upgrading to the s60. My question is how does the base engine of the s60 (non-turbo) compare with the s40's 1.9T in terms of power? I have read all the techincal specs, but does anyone have first-hand knowledge of these two engines?
Thanks!
Rob

Rob,
I own a 2001 v40 1.9t and though I haven't driven an s60 with the base engine I have driven an 850 with a slightly older version on the same engine (automatic). The 850 moves pretty well, but my v40 is definately more powerful (most likely due to the lower weight and the flat torque curve). Of course the s60 comes with a 5 speed auto that may help a bit. The base engine should be acceptable though, just don't expect it to feel faster than you s40 (though if you go for a manual in the s60 it may even things out a bit ( and be more fun ). My take would be to test drive a base s60 and see what you think, your opinion is the only one that matters in the end.

The base engine for the S60 has plenty of power for most people it seems. In the 5-speed manual form it is even better. I have driven an auto S60 2.4 and a S40 1.9T. The S40 1.9T does feel quicker and faster, but the S40 does weigh less of course. Test drive both of them and see which one you like. Optional equipment levels and prices could also make a big difference as well.
-Drew
