Our Volvo tech rep stopped by today with a 02 AWD. In short..extremely composed car, I pushed the car and tried to break traction, not possible. It had the 17" wheels which are sharp fitted with Pirelli P6 All season tires. Power was seamless and very smooth, I drove a 99 AWD right afterwards and it felf heavy and cumbersome. I am lookinf forward to driving the A4 AWD for a comparison.

Outstanding! Boy am I glad to hear that.

One question though -

You said the one you drove had 17" wheels. With all the problems I've heard from people having strange "rubbing" noises from their 17s, I'm not that wild about the idea of having them. I'd rather have the 16s - I'm not that picky and I'm sure they'll do fine.

Are the 17" wheels standard on the AWDs, or are they just an option that the car you drove happened to have?

Thanks!

Z.

Oh but they look so good. Generally with the cars, if you stay to receomended tire size, you are okay.

I've driven both cars Phil, the S60 AWD and the A4 quattro with both motors. We'll probably try for a direct comparison on the site here and for Audiworld, but the just of it is that the S60 is in between the 1.8T and 3.0 in performance. It's closer to the 3.0, but the 3.0 feels like the stronger motor (230hp, it is). The awd systems are both very good, though the A4 had the sports package which gave it the edge. The interior on the Audi didn't seem as roomy though.

Don't forget that the S60 2.4T AWD has a 'slightly raised' suspension system, so any rubbing at all should be non-existant in 17-inch wheels. It seems like the lowered 'Sport Chassis' equipped S60 T5 owners with 235/45/17's wheels were the ones reporting rubbing problems. I could be wrong though.

Drew,

My 2.4T has the standard suspension but the tires were rubbing the first 3500 miles. The dealer seems to have fixed the problem.
Rubbing hasn't reoccurred once for 2500 miles now. (fingers crossed)

Eric,

Do you know what they did to fix the problem? I think it might be helpful for some other S60 owners if they are having the same problem. Thanks!

Me, too~~!! Well, okay, not an AWD...the T5 manual with that cool looking shifter thingy.

Man....owning a c70 like mine...this S60 still put a smile on my face when I was driving it. Even though it does not have all the options included and only the 'Leather&Textile' option and some cheap 16 inch wheel combo, the car is still at a very good price. Less than 34.5k~!!!

I drove the XC and thought that was a very decent car, but...the S60 was just a great car. Now, I won't think that whole RE-Volvo-lution is just a hype. The S60 has come a long way from 70 and 850.

Okay I know Phil you Swedespeed's Volvo sales contact here...what do you think of the price? Is that a good buy? It's got the Nautic Blue color, but seems like the interior is the Taupe Kilen Cloth Interior option, is that possible?

Is this a good buy or there's a catch? How about if I have 8K down..and $350 a month, is that a good lease plan?

Thanks a lot for the advice....

Kai (I think it is you, right?)

I know about the car that you are talking about; I was talking to that dealer about that car, yesterday. Personally, I think that $350 w/ $8K down is too much. I did my calculations on our computer and assuming that $1500 of that $8K goes towards inception fees that makes your regular payment about $545/mo. which is was too much for a car like that (I know it is a T5 but it is an OPTIONLESS car). I hope that they did not suggest to you putting down that kind of money because that would be wrong advice. I never suggest to my customers to use this type of downpayments since that is miney out of the window. On the other hadn, if it was your idea in order to get your payment down, think again. If you have that much cash to use, ask your sales consultant about Volvo's mutltiple security deposit program or the multiple payment program. Your payment may not decrease that much but then you use YOUR cash wisely and not throw it away on a lease.

Good luck!

Well, I was just testing the water. 8K is a lot of down payment, and I won't be doing that of course.

So, you know about this car that I'm talking about? Which dealership did you call? It does have no other option at all, but what options are there that I can add that really worth the money?

The only option I'd really like to get my hands on are the Bi-Xenon light. Well, I might just try to get my hands on either the Ocean Race XC or the S60 AWD. Those twos are really what I was looking for.

Well, thanks for the advice....I think I know what I want to do now.
