Hey I was just wondering if anyone has managed to fit a blow off valve on a 2.4t S60 and if so could you please send me a pic of your setup? If no one has, then could someone tell me what I would need to do as far as piping and hoses go? Thanks

Re: S60 2.4T Blow off valve?? (SheffieldS60)

Why would you want it? For the sound? You don't want to bleed metered air to atmosphere; the turbo has a built in recirculating valve.

yes I'm aware it has a recirculating valve but I was just wondering if a blow off valve would be more effective and would last longer then the stock recirculating valve.

Here is the master modification thread from the R forum. A lot of information, just scroll down to turbo-talk. Also, you really should do a google search at the top of the page. Volvospeed.com has a ton of information, and it's a very common thing on the 850/X70 to have a BOV.
http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=69045

Re: (cmurphy2266)

Ok that helps thanks for explaining that. But what if I kept the recirculating valve hooked up along with installing a BOV. Would that work?

Took this from an audizine. I find myself on there more than SS
9. Diverter Valve/bypass valves in general – A diverter valve is most popular and is required for all chip and turbo applications that run more boost. It holds the extra pressure better. Forge 007, Bailey, Hyperboost, and other DVs are good. an OEM 710N DV will hold chipped boost without a problem and is a cheaper soulution. The blow off valve (BOV) is asked about. some say don't do it and will flame you. but as long as you take the necessary steps it can work. you just need to run a recirculation kit to make it work, basically taking the "blown off" air and runnning it back into the intake tract like the DV does initiallly.
Also, a reply to a thread talking about a BOV.
you can use a BOV as long as its properly set up to be closed at idle. although its generally not necessary to get rid of the DV configuration, and easier/prefered to keep it recirculated unless you need to vent a ton of air that you cant with a DV.
the problem with changing your MAF from ' pull thru' to 'blow thru' is that the MAF only measures the volume of air flowing past it and uses the IAT reading to calculate density of the air. if you dont also have a MAP sensor (which your 98.5 doesnt), and tried to push pressurized air past it the car wouldnt know the air flowing past the MAF was anything but normal atmospheric pressure and would get the calculation wrong. so you cant do that. not to mention that if you put the MAF after your crankcase vent and turbo, it would be constantly covered in oil residue.
You should look around on that forum because those guys know much more than the majority of SS members, and theiy have a loosely similar setup that we have.
The recirculating valve is available as a spare part for your turbo, and not very expensive. If you're not going to swap in a big turbo that does not have an internal valve, or run a high boost setup that has a problem with spikes, an external valve is not needed. Some add an external waste gate as an additional insurance in the latter case.
If you want to play with the turbo just for the heck of it, you can get a blanking plate and an external recirculating setup. It will require some fabbing of pipes.
