No, it's not one of those street racing posts.
Had an 08 S40 as a loaner couple of weeks ago. What a great car I truly miss since I used to have one. It was silver too, but the interior was beige.
Anyways, long story short:

Sunday noon, going straight to an intersection, sunny day, no rain, no snow, no hail, no blizzard. There's a van on the oncoming traffic, making a left turn, van turned safely. Behind the van, little itty bitty Scion xA, decided to "oh let's just follow the van and turn, no need to yield".... I brought the S40 to a complete stop, brake pedal on full blast, ABS grinding, pedal goes down to the floor (brake assist), at the same time while turning the wheel to the right.. to no avail. BAM!! I think I hit her while going 20-25mph, I was cruising about 35-40 mph.
I literally saw the lady in the Scion being thrown in around the car. Her arms were thrown up and around as the airbag blew on her face as she was saying "oooo"! That's right, in your face. Then I hear screaming coughing and crying and I thought, crap did someone died???
Realizing how I was in the middle of the intersection, I threw the gear to reverse, backed up from her wreck (my front end was "in" her front end), then pulled over to get away safely from the intersection. Oh cool my engine still running... but how come it doesn't say "crash status" (I read my S40 manual front to back, all Volvo has this crash status btw).. Oh I guess none of our airbags or pretensioners deployed.. but how come hers did?? Crap I think my whole front end is messed up... Oh no sorry dealer!
A good samaritan couple helped the scion, pushed the scion to the curb, helped calm the lady and her kid, while I was still inside the Volvo cocoon, callilng 911.
Right when I got out the car, I went straight to the front end of the car ..... huh?? Where's the damage lol.
Volvo Saved My Life.

Damn you guys responded quick .
As far as I knew, the lady didn't get cited. Cops were real nice to her, for some reason..
My insurance clearly told me she failed to yield and so far the liability is not ours. Even her insurance agreed lol.
I was told to go home by the cops within 10-15 minutes and they flirted more with the lady.

oh shi---
I'm glad that no one was hurt!!
So just that I get this right - this was a loaner and not your car?
the scion looks really bad...the hit must have been quite hard because of the airbags going off?
I know this whole bumper-to-bumper crash story quite well...
not to hijack your thread, but here are some pics when a friend of mine rear-ended in the V50 ... with me going about 90mph, and he following me waaay to close - then I had to break abrupt - and this is the result:

so our cars are built really safe!!

Yes, that was a loaner . It was also my first accident ever.
So that picture of yours, that bottom picture, that's all the scratch you got from being rear-ended? And is that a Lancer?

Re: (skwirl)

Good thing everyone's safe. I got rear-ended on the highway a couple of weeks ago, I was stopped in traffic and I hear a BOOM, some kid in an 1980's caprice hit me. The roads were wet, he was really apologetic, and I only got a couple scratches on my bumper (to add to the 100's already there from NYC parallel parkers), so I let it slide and we went out separate ways. His bumper, btw, flew up and broke his grill in half, so the Caprice ended up eating nearly all of the damage. I love the way our cars are built.
P.S. Is it just me or does the first picture look like it was taken in 1973?

Umm, does anybody know if our cars can be straightened out using one those clamp/winch/puller machines? The photos of the loaner car looks like it had the whole front part of the frame bent out to a side (you can notice it with the hood/fender alignment)

Re: (djeremya)

Good to hear that you have been kept safe in the S40.
My 2004.5 S40 was rear ended when the car was 7 months old. But it was in a traffic jam. My mom was driving at that time. A van drove right into the car as she slammed on the brakes to avoid hitting a taxi. I forgot to take pictures of the damage... but the result was similar to crossie's accident. Not a scratch, but had to replace the bumper because it's alignment was out...
