I was wondering if I can install a air filter cone on my 2005 S40 T5 on the stock plastic tube.....? The only thing I can think of is, where do I put the ECU? And will I get any noticable effects from it if I installed just the cone? I know the K&N tube is better for air flow but I am just wondering. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/smile.gif" BORDER="0">

ya know I've been checking with my finger meter my PCM since going with K&N and my own cool air induction and my ECU has at no time been as hot as it used to be in the stock location and the stock cover on. Of course I have not run out in bumper to bumper traffic and pop my hood and put my finger on.

Where did you get those brakets to mount the ECM? Also, What the hell is that big silver thing that comes from the forced induction and goes to the filter? I want one!

I would recomend a K&N Thypoon air filter, it comes with all wven the ECM kit, works great, more power and great sound.

agreed on the sound but i have heard of more than one case of an ecu over heating due to the mounting location... but this is in hot weather and driving hard, ie. 90 in 120deg weather.... so food for thought. i have one and the rubber gromets you tighten to secure it fail and tear. dont get me wrong tho i love it. looks great and has wonderful sound!

Mine works fine in 30 degrees celcius. I will never be hotter here in Denmark so I'm covered. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/smile.gif" BORDER="0"><p>That silver thing is leftovers from the CAI. It is not mounted any more. The brackets where just some stuff my dad and I had lying around the garage.

The Dane - Where did you mount the bottom of the ECU? I see where you mounted the top two bolts, but what about the bottom? Is it going to make any difference if I just put a cone on the stock tube? Also, what all do I have to remove when I remove the stock airbox?<p>Thanks guys!

So i looked at my airbox today, and it looks like I can't just throw a cone on there because there is some sort of electrical sensor going into where I need to take off to put the cone... is this the Mass Air Flow sensor? My air filter is mounted directly on the piece with the maf as you can see in the picture.<p>The ecu is only mounted in the top. No reason to have three mounting points imo. It sits tight. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/smile.gif" BORDER="0"><p>Nobody has asked me about the turbo hose. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/smile.gif" BORDER="0"> I don't really know if it makes a difference. It was installed along with the open KN and that really made a difference. I can't tell which did what but hopefully a dyno run will show some figures. The aluminum pipe is said to give 1.4 HP it self. Don't know about that though haha. But again. The dyno will tell. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/smile.gif" BORDER="0"><p>Thanks, it looks better in real life than pics and people love that there is CF on a volvo. heh.
