Has anyone consistantly reached the gas milage that the S40 is rated for? I have a 2005 S40 T5 and I seem to burn a little more gas than expected. I drive a little on the fast side, but not absurd. I average 65-70mph on the highway, and the moajority of my daily driving is highway miles.

I am averaging 25mpg. That's respectable, but this thing was stickered for 32mpg average on the highway. Any ideas?

Re: S40 Gas Milage (arbillman)

I have a 2005 S40 T5 AWD and kept track of my fuel consumption for the first complete year of ownership. I live in Alaska and run Bridgestone Blizzaks (205/55R/16) from October through April and just installed Michelin Pilot Sport All Seasons (225/45ZR/17) for the summer. I drove 17,816 miles, used 751.77 gallons of gas (23.69 Average MPG) with a total cost of $1,891.76. My driving is mostly in the city.

Do you use the cruise control??? Tire pressure set properly??? A/C on or off?? Windows open or closed???

There are many things that affect fuel economy, these are only a few. I have an '01 S60 and travel 70 miles a day mostly highway and average 27/28 from April - November then 25/26 between November - April due to winter fuel mixtures.
