I looked on the Volvo website. They don't mention having a manual transmission for the S40. To me this is a big deal that could shoot down the whole idea of getting a S40. Does anyone have one? I know that 850s didn't come in sticks in the USA but I have seen a few at one dealer that was getting them from Europe. I hope that this is the case or maybe I might have to buy something other than a Volvo

Volvo does not currently offer a manual transmission for the S40 in North America. In fact, they only offer a single transmission and a single engine in that market. Here in Europe, one has a choice of two transmissions, and seven engines (5 gas, 2 diesel). I don't know if it is possible to order a Euro spec edition for shipment to the United States, but you could try by looking up Volvo's Tourist and Diplomatic Sales program (http://www.tds.volvocars.com/). You can save a lot of money that way as well.

I am starting this pursuit right now. I've sent a letter to Volvo's TDS office in the US, and hopefully I will receive some promising results. Keep you all posted.
[This message has been edited by BradscoS40 (edited 04-22-2001).]
