My 68 P1800 is pretty clean but the driver side bottom in between the front wheel and door has a small rust hole. I took the wheel well splash guard off to see what I could see. I removed a ton of dirt but no way to get back behind there to work to fix the problem. Is the only way to get back there removing the front clip or cutting it out. If those are the only two options, then I am thinking about:
Cutting a rather large portion out but leaving the an inch or two of the bottom lip so it will be easy to weld back in,
media blasting the area and the piece I cut out,
patch the any rotten spots from the piece I cut out
Por-15 the whole thing
weld the piece back on
re-apply the Por-15 to the edges where it was welded back.
Thoughts, Is there a better way.
I' am also thinking about drilling some drain holes on the bottom so this problem doesn't happen again in 10 years.
What do you think? I know they all have a problem here so how did you fix yours?

If you have the in-house shop, skills and materials the rust repair can be done without buying expensive replacement pre-formed sheet metal.
Below are a few samples of what has been done.
George Dill
http://volvo1800pictures.com/a...n.htm
http://www.agron.iastate.edu/~....html
http://www.p1800specialist.com/4.html
http://www.peterasaro.org/motor/1800restore.html
http://www.peterasaro.org/motor/1800original.html
http://www.arc-and-anvil.com/i...7.jpg
http://www.arc-and-anvil.com/i...6.jpg
http://www.arc-and-anvil.com/volov_thumnails.html
