My S60 transmission (~56k miles) has been shifting roughly recently. I have noticed it on cold mornings and when I pull into my driveway, it shifts into 1st gear roughly. I called the dealer and they said that a fluid flush and refill will cost $300 and may not fix the problem. They also told me that there is a software upgrade for it that may fix the problem and costs $100. Has anyone else had this problem? My car is a CPO, should the warranty cover the software upgrade? They told me to bring it in for diagnosis but, everytime I do, they can't find any problems.

Re: rough shifts (mball)

Sounds alot like a stop-neutral problem. The software fix mentioned fixes this (the car shifts into neutral when stopped, and then re-engages when the brake is lifted). If it's not that, you're looking at most likely a valve body or a new tranny. I just got my tranny replaced (01 S60 GT, 102K miles). I got a great deal on the tranny....$2150 for the part, and ~$1000 for labor....
Good luck.

The drivetrain is covered under the CPO but, I hope that I don't need a new transmission at 56K. Thanks for the info on the software.

Unfortunately the next closest dealer is over an hour away. They told me several times that I should bring it in for them to look at but, everytime I bring either of my cars in with a problem, they either can't duplicate it or can't fix it. I think that I may just see what happens over the next few months or wait till the transmission gives out before the CPO warranty expires.

Re: (mball)

Why do that?
Removal of the stop neutral is worth a DAYS drive IMO, it makes the car SO MUCH MORE LIVEABLE

The dealer may be charging you this much because of the cost of the OEM fluid. You might inquire about the labor cost and take in the Mobil 3309 replacement fluid. You can obtain the Mobil fluid by the case from your local distributor for around $45/case.
