Hi! I will be taking delivery of a new S60 2.4T in March and had a question about one of the Volvo accessories. Can anyone tell me what the roof rack crossbars look like? How does it install (the dealer is doing the install, but I'm wondering if the bars can be taken on and off during the off-season)? Will the crossbars accept Thule accessories?
Thanks to everyone in advance.
-ema

Ema,
Welcome to Swedespeed! Below is a picture of what the "Load Carriers" look like on the S60. From what I understand, this system is made by Thule, so it should accept Thule accessories. Although, I have heard that the Volvo accessories are cheaper than if you buy them directly from Thule. After the bars are initially installed, you should have no problems removing them from season to season. I hope this helps!

Using Volvo’s One-Key System, for example, you can lock most of the loading accessories with the same key.

-Drew
[This message has been edited by InDy (edited 02-25-2001).]

Thanks Drew! You've answered all my questions. I will do a follow-up post after I take delivery and let everyone know how the rack works out.
Cheers,
-ema

These look to be the same as the bars on the V70. There is NO real installation necessary (they're as easy to put on as putting your key in the ignition). They are the slickest design you've ever seen, and what I consider one of the best-engineered accessory parts you'll find for your Volvo. They go on and off in about a minute with no adjustment needed. I sure hope you are not paying for installation
Here is a shot of how they work. They sit in a groove in the roof, so they touch no exposed sheet metal. A little tongue grabs a hidden bracket in the roof and pulls tight when the knob is tightened.

(thanks to Scott Wehba for the pic)
- Darell
