http://www.centerforinjuryresearch.org/
Check this website out. The Honda Ridgeline fails miserably ("catrastrophic"), makes you wonder how the Honda Odyssey would fair in this test. Same platform, same Honda engineers.
Despite all of its shortcomings, the XC90 is definitely the safest SUV. It certainly is the nicest looking too.
So for anyone shopping around, accidents do happen, and it would be nice if your head didn't get crushed.
"A shocking statistic: One third of all crash fatalities in the U.S. occur from rollover crashes! At present rollover fatalities occur at a rate six times those of frontal crashes and three times the rate of serious injuries in any other crash. In addition to those fatalities, there are three times as many catastrophic injuries in rollover crashes. Rollover casualties have increased steadily since the introduction of the SUV in 1989. Now with the greater use of SUV’s and light trucks as passenger vehicle the danger continues to grow."

Good stuff; I test drove a Ridgeline when I was shopping in 2007. I'm glad I didn't buy it now!
The Honda is also rated as a 5-star vehicle. When people comment that "other marques have caught up in safety, so why buy a Volvo?" all they need to see is this video.
I always say that I'd rather crash in a Volvo than any other make and there's your proof.
