Ok, I've been looking at getting some bigger rims for my S40R. I was looking at getting the S60R rims from a '05 but the guy said they rub on the 60 so they wouldn't work on mine. So my question is, what it the biggest rim I can get without getting the rub? I was looking at some 8.5x19, but I think they would rub so maybe some 18's? I'm sure there is someone out there that knows more about rims than me, I've never bought after market.

Re: RIMS (Shawdawg)

The Pegs off the R shouldn't rub on the S40. The rub on the R's when you turn to full wheel lock and the tire rubs on the inner lining of the wheel well. Volvo had to use wider wheels on the R's to accommodate the Brembo's, but Volvo didn't change the wheel well design to fit the bigger wheels. This won't happen on your S40. There are plenty of people running Pegs on here with no issues.

Re: RIMS (Shawdawg)

Just remember to get hubcentric rings.
S60 has different size hubcenter than S40. Also S60 uses bolts instead of nuts (S40) so the bolt holes on S60 wheels are smaller than they should be if you use default S40 nuts.
The biggest problem with big wheels on S40/V50 is the width so make sure the ET is fittable atleast with spacers - you can fit 9x19 with right ET and some mudguard grinding.
S40/V50 has 63.5mm hub and S60 has 65.0mm if I remember correctly.

I've had 19x8.5" with ET of 40, 19x8.5 iForged that didn't release their offset, and 19x8" with ET 38 currently on my car. Never had any problems with rubbing except for with 225/40 tires on my rear with the car fully loaded...if you run 235/35s on 19"s with an ET of 38-45 or so you should be fine...

225/40 are doable on 19s? Is the wheel well big enough for that? I wonder if there will be a big difference in ride comfort going up from 35 to 40.

Re: (Vash13)

I've got 225/40s on my rear right now. Never tried them on the front, but I'd be afraid of rubbing on the front. They don't rub in the rear unless your car is fully loaded. I got the two rear tires for super cheap when my others were worn out and I didn't have the cash to buy new ones. They were only slightly used. I'd stick to 235/35 in the front to be safe if you are lowered at all, stock height you might get away with 225/40 in the front.

Nah, it isn't really that noticeable to be honest. Only when you are really looking at the wheels and comparing do you notice the rears are taller. It is only like 1/4" thicker all the way around (1/2" taller). Most of my recent pics have these tires, and no one has really noticed them . $125 for two tires, or $500+ for the same tires in 235/35? It was worth it to me. Ideally I will run 235/35s all the way around so rotation can be done better...

I really don't notice any difference between the two...

Sounds like some good advise, thanks. Now will putting aftermarket on my new volvo void the warranty and piss of te dealers? Am I better off going to the dealership and seening if they have anything I like to keep my warranty?

Wheels shouldn't effect your warranty at all: get whatever wheels you like. OEM will be a great quality, but they are as expensive as nice aftermarket wheels. Up to you.
